Job Title: Subeditor, Nature magazine

Nature, the international journal of science, is looking for an eagle-eyed subeditor to help us maintain our high standards of accuracy and readability.

The successful candidate will be comfortable reading and writing about science, a stickler for grammar and facts and enjoy working as part of a close-knit team to subedit commissioned news and opinion articles to a high quality for both print and online in a fast-paced environment.

The position is full-time and based at Springer Nature New York office. Internal applicants from other journals hub locations may also apply.

Responsibilities:
Subediting news and comment articles to make sure the text is factually and grammatically correct, adheres to the house style, flows smoothly and logically, and fits neatly within the space allocated to it
Writing crisp and engaging headlines and standfirsts that don’t resort to cliché
Fact-checking content
Correcting proofs, artwork and pages during the production process, to ensure that the pages are finished to the appropriate standard for output
Ensuring that content, including multimedia, is correctly and appropriately displayed online

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
Degree in a scientific discipline
Experience of subediting scientific, medical or technical copy for an audience of non-specialists
Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign
Strong time management
Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
Tact in dealing with authors and colleagues

This role will be a hybrid working position allowing 2-3 days working from home and core hours.

Annualized Base Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education and skill level.
