Basic Function:
The Student Support Services and McNair Scholars Program Director will be responsible for the overall operations of Student Support Services (SSS) and the McNair Scholars Program (McNair). SSS and McNair are federally funded TRIO Grant Programs. The Director will serve as chief administrator of the project, conducting financial management, budget oversight and allocation, personnel recruitment and management, and oversee the fulfillment of program objectives. The objective of SSS is to increase the retention and graduation rates of first-generation and low-income students as well as individuals with disabilities who are enrolled in the program. The objective of McNair is to increase the number of first-generation, low-income students as well as students underrepresented in graduate education to pursue a doctoral degree.

Representative Duties:
Provide leadership, management and administrative direction for SSS and McNair (the grant programs); grant oversight /compliance. E
Direct the grant programs to achieve the respective grant stated goals and objectives as stated in the grant narratives. E
Manage the grant budgets; prepare annual budgets; authorize expenditure of funds ensuring the appropriate utilization of funds. E
Manage, track and submit time and effort reports. E
Prepare semi-annual and annual program and financial reports; prepare all grant fiscal and progress reports as required. E
Supervise staff in areas of recruitment, participant, and program cohesiveness. E
Supervise staff hiring and ongoing training; including training of staff on academic and professional advising. E
Direct the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, activities, and programs. E
Report on participant and program progress to Cal Lutheran and the Department of Education for Interim and Annual Performance Reports. E
Oversee participants recruitment, selection, and eligibility verification. E
Work closely and collaboratively with the McNair Principal Investigator to accomplish project objectives;
Work closely with Faculty who serve as Faculty Mentors for the grants. E
Communicate and with campus administrators, University personnel and the U.S. Department of Education to coordinate activities, and/or resolve issues or concerns. E
Interprets and ensures compliance with University policies, the Education Department General Administrative Regulations (EDGAR), the Government Performance and Results Act (GERPA), and the General Educational Provisions Act (GEPA). E
Provide academic and professional advising and mentoring on a regular basis to students. E
Serve as Liaison to U.S. Department of Education TRIO office on matters concerning the grant programs. E
Coordinate with Undergraduate Admission, Financial Aid, and the Office of Educational Effectiveness and Institutional Research (EEIR) for purposes of recruiting students and verifying eligibility of students to participate in program. E
Work with the Business Office on account reconciliation, budget changes, etc.; collaborate with Grant Accounting and Business staff to ensure proper disbursement of student and faculty stipends, student travel stipends, and conference participation awards; collaborate with the Office of Sponsored Research and Projects on compliance, project administration, and reporting. E
Student Development Design and execute Mentor Orientation/Training sessions. E
Develop systems to keep University informed of program activities. E
Work with University Marketing and Website teams to produce information materials in print and online. E
Represent Cal Lutheran and at conferences and events. E
Perform all other duties as assigned.

Coordinate academic support workshops and develop seminars geared towards students.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Organize and schedule work.
Operate a computer and other office equipment.
Manage Federal Grant Budgets.
Create a culture of excellence, focused on research, publishing, and doctoral degree attainment.
Provide academic, social, and personal advisement to students.
Supervise, train evaluate, and direct the work of others.
Maintain sensitivity to an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds in a university.
Work collaboratively with others to foster university-wide partnerships to promote equitable outcomes for all students.
Maintain accurate budget records and fiscal management.

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination equivalent to: Masters Degree in one of the following fields: Administration, Education, Counseling, Social Work or the Social Sciences, and four years experience in student affairs or student support programs, such as the U.S. Department of Educations Federal TRIO Programs. Demonstrate an understanding of, and commitment to the unique educational needs of first-generation low-income university students

Preferred Qualifications:
Doctoral Degree in one of the following fields: Administration, Education, Counseling, Social Work or the Social Sciences. The director will have four years experience in student affairs or student support programs, such as the U.S. Department of Educations Federal TRIO Programs.
