This is a student position responsible for assisting in the operations and activities of a department or a departmental project, program, or function.
This position will be for an on-site counselor for a one-week JAMP (Joint Admission Medical Program) pre-medical camp for high school seniors. The camp will be held Sunday, July 9 through Saturday, July 15. The counselor will reside in the dorms with the students , transport and accompany students to/from meals and activities, assist with classes and activities, organize and conduct activities during free time, and be available to answer questions and help students.

1. Provides office assistance to the department by assisting staff in routine clerical duties and responsibilities.
2. Provides assistance in answering phone calls, routing incoming calls, taking messages, greeting visitors, and directing visitors to appropriate staff member.
3. Assists in file and records maintenance.
4. Assists in the preparation and implementation of departmental project/program activities.
5. Provides general information and/or training regarding project/program.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.
No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.

- Be available and willing to commit from noon Sunday, July 9 through 3 p.m. Saturday, July 15, with occasionally meetings prior to July 9 for training.
- Have a minimum 3.25 overall GPA.
- Have the pre-health attribute.
- Be planning to attend medical school (not nursing, PT, OT, optometry, or veterinarian).
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Be willing to, and pass, the SFA van certification course — counselors will be required to drive passenger vans to transport campers.
- Not be enrolled in summer 2 courses. The camp is a week long and the schedule does not allow time for counselors to attend classes, complete assignments, or study for exams.
The camp anticipates needing 2 female counselors and 1 male counselor. The number and gender of counselors is subject to change depending on the number of campers accepted and the gender distribution.
Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands Special Conditions for Eligibility
To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours in any summer session or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
