We have an immediate need for a Structural Project Specialist, located in Harrisonburg, VA (can also be located at our Springdale, AR).

This position is essential in providing high level customer service and driving revenues through the proactive management of engineering and design needs in collaboration with customers, sales, and the front-end team. This role acts as a key engineering advisor in providing structural calculations to ensure Kawneer products meet all Federal/State/Local building codes; reviewing and commenting on architectural and structural drawings; performing calculations for custom, job specific applications; and reviewing and commenting on Project specifications and preparing written qualifications to be included in customer quotes/estimates.

Major Activities / Key Challenges:

  • Work with customers, sales, architects and general contractors to provide design solutions using existing and custom products.
  • Work with estimators to provide design solutions using existing and custom products.
  • Coordinate blast application needs with outside vendors.
  • Perform basic structural analysis using commercial software such as RISA, C-Beam, and other in-house tools.
  • Self-directed and works independently with attention to detail and project schedule.
  • Perform application reviews for architect and customer support, Interacts with customers, architects, and consultants.
  • Proactively look for solutions for projects that exceed customer expectations.
  • Promote and service customers at a level that leads to more orders at highest profitability.
  • Understand overall plan needs and accepts accountability for the projects that are expected to meet/exceed the land in area of responsibility.
  • Timely and accurately respond to customer needs.
  • Use time management skills to meet release deadlines.
  • Offer department improvements to reduce claims and improve efficiency of services.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • The position requires practical and intuitive knowledge of commercial design and construction processes.
  • The ability to work and think independently, while managing within a project team environment.
  • Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel, AutoCad and Kalucad.
  • Understand other trades and investigate usage if needed.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances.
  • Must be self-motivated, people-oriented, service-oriented, and possess the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Problem solving/mathematical skills required to conduct structural analysis.
  • Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to function in an environment with tight deadlines.
  • A strong professional image, ethical standards, integrity, objectivity, confidence and dedication to internal and external customers.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering field.
  • One year of experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural plans and installation instructions.
  • Strong mathematical skills to conduct structural analysis.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to verbally communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
