Purpose

This position performs truck and equipment operation duties in support of street construction and maintenance projects and sanitation services.

Essential Job Functions

  • Operates a variety of trucks, equipment, tractors, and rollers.
  • Maintains and repairs drainage systems; cleans gutters, sidewalks, and catch basins.
  • Performs truck and equipment maintenance; performs pre- and post-operation inspections; reports repair needs to supervisor.
  • Operates a truck to collection and transport yard waste and bulk trash.
  • Operates a vacuum truck.
  • Collects litter from streets and city property.
  • Operates a bush-hog, mower, and weed eater.
  • Installs traffic control devices at work sites.
  • Seeds and straws land for grass.
  • Removes trees, limbs, and brush from streets and right-of-way.
  • Operates a bucket truck.
  • Installs holiday decorations.
  • Paves streets and repairs potholes.
  • Operates a snow plow and participates in snow and ice removal operations.
  • Performs related duties.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in public works maintenance.
  • Knowledge of city and departmental safety policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the geography of the town, including street names and locations.
  • Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles, trucks, and equipment.
  • Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.

Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • More than three years of related experience required.
  • Must obtain a valid commercial driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia of the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

  • The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light objects and climbs ladders.
