Northrop Grumman is hiring a Staff Systems Engineer to be located in Dulles, VA supporting our National Security Space programs in our Tactical Space Systems Division. This Lead Systems Engineering role is responsible for leading the Systems Engineering technical team, which includes the following duties: systems analysis and trades, coordinating Vehicle Systems engineering activities, engineering baseline management, interface management, requirements/V&V management, subcontractor technical oversight, CAM/EVMS duties, preparing/presenting SE material at all major reviews and PMR’s and interfacing with the customer and SETA’s on all space segment technical issues.

The responsibilities include both individual-contributor and leadership roles, within a multi-disciplined engineering team. Successful candidate will also be called upon to support other activities, including architecture studies, mission support, and traditional Systems Engineering functions. In this lead role, the Lead Systems Engineer is expected to be self-directed using previous experience to lead design, analysis and execution efforts. Candidates must be able to recognize and mitigate technical issues and risks while operating within budget and on schedule.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead/Provide major support to the entire program technical team.

  • Lead and optimize space vehicle design, processing and mission success.

  • Troubleshoot and develop solutions to complex problems that the program may encounter.

  • Develop, author and/or provide input to major program data products and other deliverables.

  • Technical management of program elements

  • Planning and conduct of technical reviews and technical baseline

  • Writing status and technical performance reviews and reports

  • Mentor, coach, train, guide, direct and advise junior staff

  • The candidate will work with cross-discipline team members and must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse community of engineers and managers to achieve the goals of the program team.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have U.S. Citizenship with a current or active Top Secret/SCI level clearance.

  • This position requires a BS degree in Engineering, Science or related technical field and at least 14 years of applicable experience, an MS Degree and 12 years of applicable experience, or a PhD Degree and 9 years of applicable experience.

  • Systems engineering experience

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with a space development program

  • Experience presenting to customers

  • Experience working with a cross-discipline team



Salary Range: $161,000 USD - $241,400 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
