Job Description and Responsibilities

The Staff Educator position is responsible for leading, supporting and mentoring staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality resident care consistent Duncaster’s standards. This position assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates programs for staff education directed towards the achievement of professional excellence. As an integral member of the clinical/operations leadership team this position will assist in achieving and maintaining clinical excellence, delivering and documenting exceptional care to a diverse population of residents, ensuring positive outcomes and maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements. The Staff Educator will serve as the primary contact person for nursing, professional, and support services staff education and will create professional education resources and instructional leadership in support of the workforce.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides leadership for the assessment of learning/resource needs and the subsequent establishment of goals for staff education that are allied with Duncaster’s strategic objectives.
• Collaborates with the clinical/operations leadership team to prioritize staff education needs based on indicators such as new policy development, new technology, patient case study, safety, and quality improvement initiative.
• Establishes and maintains relevant education resources to assist and support staff education, advancement, and development.
• Monitors staff education and program offerings. Recommends direction and program focus.
• Functions as a liaison with community healthcare professionals to promote professional/education programs and services.
• Performs, maintains, and enhances new hire and clinical orientation. Ensures that content meets and is consistent with regulations.
• Provides up to date and relevant education to staff, maintaining content and hours compliance with state of Connecticut and CMS requirements.
• Assists in policy and procedure development, revision, and implementation. Ensures applicable policies are followed and provides education to staff as needed.
• Actively participates in and contributes to quality improvement initiatives as appropriate.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• Current CT Registered Nurse license is required. Master's degree in nursing, health education, or health is preferred.
• Three years of progressively responsible experience in staff education or nursing in a long-term care facility is required.
• Recent nursing experience with clinical focus is preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to interpret medical data is essential.
• Ability to function independently, attend to detail, work under pressure, and prioritize multiple projects.
• Strong public relations abilities; professional appearance, attitude, and motivation essential.
• Demonstrated experience in adult learning principles.
• Strong proficiency with a variety of systems (e.g., EHR) and the Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook).

Environment and Working Conditions

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Prolonged periods of standing, walking and bending.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
