Salary: Expected base pay rate for this role will be between $115,546 and $156,327+ USD per year at the commencement of employment.

However, if hired, base pay will be determined on an individualized basis (pay rates may vary) and is only one part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include discretionary bonuses and other IMAX sponsored benefit programs.

JOB DESCRIPTION

IMAX is looking for a Senior Manager of Production Technology to lead a team of talented engineers who specialize in post-production, mastering and distribution workflows. The Director of Production Technology, and the Director’s team of engineers, keep the theatrical mastering, distribution, and color correcting pipeline running 24/7 constantly looking to improve IMAX efficiency with cutting edge hardware, software, workflow automation, and strong business process.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee three production technology teams: Post, DMR, and IO
  • Direct a skilled team of Production Technology engineers who have handle a high volume of post-production needs
  • Work in Partnership with SVP, Information& Production Technology and the EVP, Post-Production to develop, plan and budget Production Technology strategy
  • Develop and manage Production Technology projects including the capture and documentation of requirements and workflow
  • Oversee and manage Production Technology service desk and ensure team adheres to predefined SLA’s
  • Assist with design, deployment, and documentation of Production Technology systems
  • Oversee IMAX Post theater and QC environments
  • Develop workflow automation for repeat processes to obtain efficiencies
  • Perform tier 2 and tier 3 trouble shooting for production technology issues in a post-production environment comprised of Linux, Windows, Virtualization software, post-production and distribution hardware and software
  • Design, expand, and trouble shoot file transfer environments including Aspera, Signiant, SFTP systems
  • Provide mentorship and training for Production Technology engineers
  • Help gather system requirements and document workflows for new production technology efforts
  • Help evaluate and test new production technologies including compatibility tests with existing systems
  • Create and maintain production technology designs and documentation for new and current production technology systems
  • Help maintain all system documentation including run books, inventory, troubleshooting guides, and “how to”
  • Work as an effective team leader who inspires and motivates post engineering team
  • Communicate effectively with team, leadership, and business units
  • Help monitor and respond to alerts in post-production environment
  • Perform off hour maintenance as required

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a computer science related area or 10 yr. equivalent work experience
  • Previous experience managing a Production/Studio Technology engineering team of more than 6 people
  • A proven team leader with a track record for delivering complex projects on time and on budget
  • Previous experience developing and managing Production Technology budgets
  • Extensive experience developing and managing file-based workflows
  • Strong knowledge of post-production hardware / software
  • Strong knowledge of Mastering and Distribution workflows
  • Strong knowledge of virtualization platforms and technologies
  • Knowledge of rendering environments, 3D, Stereo conversion preferred
  • Experience with cloud, and cloud services a plus
  • Expert knowledge of Linux
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows server and Microsoft active directory
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills (both hardware and software)
  • Able to learn new technologies quickly
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Able to work independently
  • Able to work after hours and weekends when necessary
  • Hands on experience with Linux, Microsoft Windows, & Mac OSX required
  • Experienced with Baselight, Clipster, Cineasset, Comprimato, Aspera, Signiant, Doremi, DCP, KDM, Adobe CC, post-production software (AVID, Premiere, Pro-Tools) preferred
  • Familiarity with Stornext hardware/software, GPFS NAS, VAST, Qumulo and/or Isilon preferred
  • General understanding of color science and color space preferred
  • General understanding of motion picture sound, sound mix, sound formats (THX, Dolby Atmos, DTS) preferred
  • Experience with maintaining and calibrating projection equipment, specifically Barco
  • Familiarity and practical experience with professional A/V post-production equipment such as operating and programming centralized video and KVM routers
  • Background in Color science, including an understanding of wide-gamut XYZ and REC709/DCI color space, gamma encoding, color sub sampling etc. as it pertains to Baselight and DaVinci Resolve system support
  • Be an escalation point for troubleshooting technical issues related to asset delivery into our Post, DCP mastering, and QC Environment
