This position is responsible for performing procedures, activities and duties associated with the commissioning of natural gas refrigeration and process systems independently. Duties include leading installation, commissioning, servicing and training other junior level technicians on natural gas refrigeration and process systems. The purpose of the Sr. Commissioning Technician is to be proficient in new equipment installation, commissioning, and performing advanced maintenance with no supervision.

There will be a significant amount of travel with this role. The candidate will be reporting to the AMS Houston, TX office, but will not be required to relocate to the area.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

  • Represents the company in a professional manner at all times while providing outstanding customer service that aligns with Enerflex visions and values.
  • Responsible for professional communication with internal and external customers at all levels ( e.g. management, engineers, project managers, technical support, etc.).
  • Accountable for submitting accurate field service reports, expense reports, timesheets and other necessary paperwork daily.
  • Responsible for directing, coordinating, and performance of the job activities in a manner consistent with the projects goals and objectives.
  • Accountable for providing full leadership and training to both new and junior level Field Technicians.
  • Independently diagnose system and component failures accurately and efficiently.
  • All duties and responsibilities could include a large amount of (domestic and international) travel at short notice including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Independently evaluates and procures materials needed to provide optimal job planning.
  • Lead and complete, accurate, and timely rebuilds/overhauls of natural gas refrigeration and process systems.
  • Responsible for accurate advanced level troubleshooting of electrical systems, controls, and unit control panels such as microprocessors and Allen Bradley PLCs.
  • Accountable for accurately competing advanced system tuning functions to adjust the performance of process/refrigeration systems.
  • Responds to and repairs recurring problems and emergency services as needed independently.
  • Independently lead installations of new units including commissioning and start-up inspections with no supervision.
  • Perform mechanical inspection using micrometers, pressure gauges, electronic diagnostic equipment and other specialty tools independently.
  • Must recognize and comply with Health, Safety and Environmental rules and policies that are applicable to each location.
  • Other duties assigned by supervisor.

Job Specifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Certification in Refrigeration Theory and Principles
  • 15+ years refrigeration and process systems experience
  • Proof of universal EPA certification from the Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification Program.
  • State Refrigeration Registration or Certification

Qualifications:

  • Must be proficient with a personal computer and common applicable functions/programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Proficient with PLC software/Micro Processors.
  • Knowledge and ability to accurately complete advanced level maintenance, repairs, and installation activities unassisted.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical abilities with knowledge and experience to perform complex service, installation and maintenance tasks.
  • Extensive electrical/control panel knowledge and capable of reading schematics, troubleshooting, installation, and diagnostics of all major OEM microprocessors and Alan Bradley PLCs.
  • Ability to understand install and tune all major systems controls related to compressor packages and supplied off skid equipment.
  • Must have his/her own tools of the trade. (With exceptions of specialty or OEM specific diagnostic equipment)
  • Ability to lead and perform new unit installations, startups, and diagnostics on all major OEM’s independently.
  • Provide preventative and corrective field mechanical service on natural gas refrigeration and process systems on site at end user locations.
  • Ability to identify and stop activities that are unsafe for personnel or the environment when they occur.
  • Possess advanced understanding of refrigerant properties, conditions, and theories.
  • Possess advanced understanding of Compressor and Production Equipment types, models, and theory of operation.
  • Possess advanced understanding of Installation, Assembly, Commissioning, Trouble Shooting and Repair procedures related to natural gas refrigeration and process equipment.
  • Possess thorough understanding of tooling utilized to install, maintain, and operate Gas Compressors and Production Equipment. (Dial indicators, Laser alignment tools, feeler gauges, Digital volts Ohm meter).
  • Ability to teach and demonstrate proper technique of coupling alignments using both laser and dial indicator methods.
  • Ability to teach how to decipher P&ID's, Blue Prints, Installation Instructions, and Technical Manuals.

  • Motivated self-starter capable of working independently and perform all leadership functions while on site.
  • Proactively research using both internal and external resources.
  • Ability to lead in supervisor’s absence.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write legible, routine correspondence and to speak effectively as well as coherently with management and other employees
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of advanced systems, compressors, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Working Conditions

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly/frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and Infrequently/occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and adverse outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
