Department Marketing Statement

Brief Summary of Job Duties

The Senior Custodian is primarily responsible for maintaining dining room floors, cleaning of restrooms and offices, periodic cleaning of windows, training, supervision and follow up nightly kitchen clean up, working as a liaison with the maintenance department for minor equipment repair and maintenance (carts, wheels, light bulb replacements, etc.), and overseeing shutdown building clean ups. Supervises part-time student employees.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Experience:

  • One year of progressively more responsible janitorial experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of safety and sanitation regulations regarding proper storing of chemicals in a food environment, proper cleaning of janitorial closet, safe lifting and transporting procedures, and ability to train others in this area.
  • Exhibits organizational skills sufficient to ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Communication skills sufficient to direct the work of others and interact successfully within a large staff, including part time student employees.
  • Ability to understand, read and write English for the purpose of reading and creating special projects lists.


Special Conditions of Employment

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work standing for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Satisfactory conviction history background check.

Job Functions/Percentage of Time/Duties

General Cleaning Duties - 70%

Daily Duties:
  • Cleans and stocks kitchen and dining room restrooms and locker areas.
  • Washes windows on a rotating schedule.
  • Cleans offices - empties trash, washes and straightens desks, vacuums floors, washes -windows - shampoos carpets periodically.
  • Cleans all food transits, dish dollies, glass and plate lowerators.
  • Cleans tile wall areas in the kitchen.
  • Maintains dining room carpets - empties trash.
  • Keeps back dock clear, swept and scrubbed.
  • Washes all kitchen hand sinks - keeps single use towels stocked.
Weekly Duties:
  • Deodorizes trash and recycle dumpsters - cleans under and around dumpster.
  • Cleans and deodorizes all floor drains in the kitchen and serving square.
  • Waxes and buffs dining room floors.
  • Thoroughly cleans chairs and tables in dining room.
  • Washes refrigerators in square, remove transits and cleans.
  • Cleans and polishes walk-in doors.
  • Cleans exhaust hoods in kitchen, bakery, and square areas.
  • Maintains all trash dolly wheels - removes strings and keeps wheels oiled.

Special Projects - 30%

  • Trains and oversees student assistants in proper nightly kitchen floor cleaning procedures.
  • Assists in and directs student assistants in periodic heavy-duty cleaning of dining facility during shut down time, including buffing kitchen floors and stripping and re waxing dining room floors.
  • Cleans BBQ pits.
  • Cleans the ice machines - outsides, tops, doors, and drains.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of cleaning supplies - reorders when necessary.
  • Keeps all cleaning equipment and supplies stored neatly.
  • Reports any repairs needed. Writes work orders as needed.
  • Changes all light bulbs in kitchen, dining room, and serving square, etc., when necessary.
  • Keeps all air vents clean in the kitchen, square and dining rooms.
  • Replaces and cleans can opener blades.
  • Repairs and replaces cart wheels and table legs.
  • Unclogs minor stoppages in toilets and drains, assists maintenance on larger projects.
  • Minor plumbing repairs to include changing the washers, screens and handles on faucets and sprayers.
  • Minor plastering (spackling) and touch up painting.
  • Replaces electrical cover plates that have been broken.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Managers.
