Your Role at Cabot:

Cabot is seeking a talented motivated individual to join as a Sr. Chemical Operator in the Advanced Carbons team. Our product is a best-in-class conductive carbon nanomaterial, that has a range of applications including plastic composites and batteries. Carbon Nanostructures (CNS) are produced in a unique roll-to-roll Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) process. This role will be located in Billerica, MA, Cabot’s primary CNS production and R&D facility. **Operational hours may vary as this position will float between 1st and 2nd shift as well as possibly work weekends**

How You’ll Make an Impact:

Flexible self-motivated Operator to run chemical process systems and related equipment, who performs all tasks in a safe manner and following plant safety policies and procedures. You will gain experience and will be fully cross-trained in all aspects of the production process including quality control testing and basic maintenance. Operational hours may vary as this position will float between 1st and 2nd shift as well as possibly work weekends.

A successful candidate will be someone who:

  • Carefully and continuously monitors the process and corrects process upsets based on SOPs. Adjusts controls to regulate variables as per instructions. Performs set up procedures to prepare systems for operation. Monitors and troubleshoots the process to maintain required operating conditions. Conducts in process Quality Control testing. Performs minor maintenance and cleaning on process and support equipment.
  • Maintains updated operating procedures, records, and production activity reports. May use business management systems to enter work orders and requisitions.
  • Moves and connects flammable gas cylinders to manifolds. Conducts leak checks. Procures raw materials from storage to supply the process. Collects and packages process waste materials for disposal. May transfer and move materials in heavy containers. Assists in packaging product for shipment and in loading/unloading product or raw materials.
  • Participates in scheduled safety meetings and completes safety training requirements.

What You’ll Bring to Cabot:

  • High School diploma, or equivalent. Additional course of study and licensing for chemical operation a plus. 5-7 years of chemical operation experience is preferred. Previous experience with fiber processing lines a plus.
  • Manual dexterity, accuracy, and attention to details. General mechanical aptitude. Ability to lift heavy containers and use material handling equipment.
  • High level of safety awareness and attention to details. Able to read and interpret complex operating instructions. Good organizational and record keeping skills. Familiarity with computers as a user.
  • Flexibility in performing changing assignments and work schedules. Required to work off-shift hours after initial training. Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team-based environment. Ability to remain calm and react effectively in critical situations.
