This position is hybrid in either Springfield, IL, Madison, WI or Addison, TX.

We are searching for a Director of SOX to join our team who thrives in a collaborative environment and shares our commitment to providing valuable risk management, governance and control insight that supports our corporate responsibilities and shareholder commitment of serving our country's educators.
The SOX Director will have a thorough understanding of SOX methodology and will lead activities in completing the annual SOX Risk Assessment, lead the defining of SOX policies and methods, and, provide coaching, technical guidance and mentoring to junior resources. This role manages the SOX schedule, staffing assignments and key leadership reporting for the organization as well as external auditors.
This is a highly visible role in the organization with an opportunity to interact with all levels of management, including Senior Leadership and External Auditors.

Additionally, this position includes:

  • Develop and maintain productive business partner relationships through individual contact and group meetings.
  • Supervise the SOX process to ensure that objectives are understood and met, key risks and controls are identified, testing is complete and documented in accordance with departmental standards and that reports are accurate, clear and concise.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff on client communication, data analysis, risk identification, key control analysis and determination of recommended SOX scope and objectives.
  • Manage assigned staff, including evaluating performance, providing feedback, coaching, guidance and training in the SOX approach.
  • Develop SOX objectives, plans and scope consistent with the SOX Plan, assessment of financial risk and priorities as per the SOX plan.
  • Develop and maintain a complete understanding of all significant activities in assigned business lines and processes. Perform periodic risk assessments and make recommendations for appropriate changes to the SOX plan.
  • Keep abreast of accounting, regulatory or other developments that may impact the financial areas or assigned areas.
  • Schedule SOX testing and allocate resources to accomplish the SOX plan objectives.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field required. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Possess at least one of the recognized accounting/audit/risk management certifications (e.g., CPA, CIA) and Industry recognized licenses and certifications are considered a plus (e.g., CPCU, LOMA, FINRA series, etc.).
  • 7+ years of diversified experience, including 2-4 plus years of public accounting or comparable public company internal audit experience.
  • Experience in insurance, financial services or other highly regulated organization is preferred.
  • Outstanding interpersonal oral and written communication skills.
