Capital Projects are vital to a company’s ability to grow and/or sustain current operations and therefore be competitive in a commodity industry. There is a direct link between Alcoa’s strategic priorities and the planning and execution of the Alcoa capital program.
Reporting into our Senior Manager Capital Procurement – EUR & NAM, in this role you will provide leadership in category management, strategic sourcing, program and project contracting strategy, TCO analysis, contract management, materials management and dispute resolution.
You will also act as the single point of accountability for all activities associated with the procurement planning and sourcing strategy, sourcing execution, contract management, expediting, materials management of all materials and services, team management and development for all capital projects for Alcoa within our U.S. Operations.
This role will be the Capital SPA for Best Value Country Sourcing Program and will lead the strategy development and implementation for assigned portfolio in the U.S.
The location for this role is flexible across the Alcoa U.S. sites.
In addition, your key contributions will be:
1. Business Alignment
  • Understands the demands, needs and requirements of the business in order to develop regional program and project, sourcing and contracting strategies that are consistent with short and long term business objectives in current and future markets.
  • Manages the appropriate engagement of regional sponsorship to help develop and execute value added strategies for the business.
2. Strategy Development
  • Develops a network of global and regional Procurement and Capital Delivery professionals (Internal and External) with intimate knowledge of the categories, commodities, contracting strategies and business needs to enable effective strategy development.
  • Develops (through self and others) the Regional Contracting Strategies that maximize value to Alcoa by leveraging the synergy of the Project Business Case, the business constraints and the current and forecasted regional construction industry conditions across the regions.
  • Works with the Senior Manager Capital Procurement – EUR & NAM to ensure the global and regional sourcing and contracting strategies are aligned to and will deliver the Alcoa Capital Program objectives for our U.S. operating locations.
  • Ensures that local and global procurement activity is aligned with regional and Local Community Support strategies.
3. Opportunity Prioritization
  • Works collaboratively with regional members of the Global Capital to prioritize opportunities for realization and improve supplier relationships and performance.
  • Identifies near and long term opportunities within the regional project spend through market intelligence and interaction with the Business.
4. Capital Portfolio Management
  • SPA for the capital procurement function and annual savings plan for assigned portfolio of projects in the U.S., with around USD $70M - $130M spend annually.
  • Provides guidance and leadership within regional capital structures to ensure strategies developed for programs and projects are aligned with the overall category strategies and Procurement and Capital Objectives.
  • Develops and applies processes and metrics to monitor performance towards results and governance for the Capital Procurement team in North America.
5. Execution
  • Leads and manages assigned Capital Procurement team and engineering service providers in strategy development, sourcing, negotiations, implementation, program performance monitoring, supplier relationship management, contract management, expediting and materials management.
  • Responsible for supplier relationship management with key global and regional capital suppliers to: (a) assure maximum value to Alcoa; (b) Supply Continuity Assurance; and (c) market intelligence.
About you:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Procurement, Supply Chain or technical discipline (i.e. engineering). Track record in managing CAPEX and/or other major projects preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Business, Finance, Engineering, Supply Chain Management).
  • Professional certifications (CPM, APICS, CIPS) desirable.
  • Good Project Management and cross-functional team leadership skills.
  • Experience in leading, developing and implementing sourcing/project initiatives within a materials handling and process/ manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in ERPs, Procurement systems (Ariba, Oracle, SAP) and MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Good understanding of project execution strategies and the procurement and contracting strategies used on major projects.
  • Very strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to communicate effectively at any level, internally and externally.
  • Ability to drive aggressive implementation plans and schedules.
