PRIMARY PURPOSE:
As a Sommelier, you will be responsible for complete knowledge of wine lists and wine and food pairings. You will also set the stage for the guest experience with your welcoming smile and service. By understanding their unique stories and needs, you will own their experience to create WOW memories they will carry with them far and beyond their stay with us.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain complete knowledge of the wine list and wine and food pairing
- Collect money, while following all proper cash handling and comp procedures
- Clean equipment, tools, and supplies and ensure equipment is in good working order, including cleanliness, sanitation, and appearance of workstation
- Maintain and update cellar/storage inventory according to set pars and internal controls, and request product to maintain stock in the designated area
- Eliminate waste by training and supervising employees on wine knowledge, pour levels, proper storage, etc.
- Verify the accuracy of wine delivery ordered and received from the main warehouse and return or exchange deliveries when a warehouse error has occurred
- Maintain appropriate beverage costs by placing and managing purchases and requisitions
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of beverages on the menu including the characteristics of wine and champagne, designated glassware, terminology, and garnishes
- Knowledge of health, safety, and sanitation regulations and procedures
- Knowledge of various Point of Sale (POS) devices
- Excellent customer service skills as well as interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts
- Knowledge of proper service techniques
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year of related experience
- Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays
PREFERRED:
- Four (4) years of service experience in a similar dining environment
- Sommelier Certification
- IP/inventory system experience
