Job Description

Title: Skilled Tradesman

Full Time ☒ - Salary Grade: Local 32 - Class VII

Division: Buildings & Construction

Position Charter:

Under the direction of the Trade Journeyman/Foreman and or Assistant Foreman, assists with the construction of a variety of Park Projects that will require the use of hand and power tools and perform other related work in the Building & Construction Unit.

Essential Functions:

• Assures compliance with established Park Commission and P.E.O.S.H.A. Safety Standards, policies and procedures.
• Engaged in construction and maintenance projects.
• Working as a Skilled Tradesman on all types of construction projects. Including but not limited to the construction of buildings, bridges, roads, drainage, installation of utilities, roofing, siding, framing, masonry, as well as painting and maintenance of all structures.
• Ensures proper use and care of equipment, materials and supplies.
• Operates Park Commission motor vehicles to transport personnel, materials and equipment on Park Commission property and public roadways.

Other Functions:

• Instructs junior staff members.
• Cleans and cares for tools.
• Performs other work as required and assigned.

Qualifications:

• Three-years of verifiable construction experience.
• Knowledge of the tools, methods and materials used in maintenance and construction projects.
• Demonstrated ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at an eighth grade level in order to safely operate equipment and work from plans and specifications.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions.
• Ability to manually lift and carry weights of up to sixty pounds.
• Possession of a valid New Jersey Driver's License, Class A CDL may be required.
• Must demonstrate the Knowledge and use of the tools of the trade.
• Must demonstrate general knowledge of all construction trades.
• Must pass a physical skills test as well as a written test consisting of 15 questions relating to the required trade.
• The ability to maintain an attendance record satisfactory to accomplish the essential functions of the position.
• Physical dexterity, strength and coordination sufficient to complete the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to effectively repair and/or renovate projects with techniques suitable to type of constructions (i.e. platform frame, balloon frame, and post and beam).
• Understand and apply techniques used in historical repair, renovation and reconstruction.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $51,989.00 per year

• Morristown, NJ 07960: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Experience:

• Construction: 3 years (Required)
• Knowledge all construction trades: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

• NJ Driver's License (Required)
• Class A CDL (Preferred)
