About the Role
Our small team is seeking a full-time Village Support Specialist. This role will report to our Program Manager while working closely with senior leadership and other team members.

What You Will Do
Job Summary:

Our Support Specialists provide daytime and evening staffing of our Village Center, and our low-barrier tiny home village.

Job Type: Full-time, non-exempt

Hours of work are:

Monday- Friday, 10:00am- 6:30pm

General Job Description:

1. Work with the Executive Director to manage our team to ensure that the facilities are safe and welcoming to a broad diversity of people experiencing homelessness including people of all races, nationalities, languages, ages, abilities.

2. Assist participants in reaching their short-term and long-term goals.

3. Provide basic needs assistance to villagers and outreach participants.

4. Ensure a safe environment on the property, alerting management of concerns around emotional and physical safety concerns.

5. Maintain accurate, complete, up-to-date daily documentation of all participants that we serve.

6. Maintain healthy and positive relationships with participants and other team members through direct and compassionate communication techniques. Develop and maintain a positive relationship with residents and other employees.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:

A minimum of:

  • 2 years of experience is social services
  • 2 years of experience in homelessness outreach and/or in a shelter environment
  • 1 year of management experience

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate conflict and assist others in doing the same.
  • Basic principles of confidentiality, crisis de-escalation, assertive engagement, and trauma informed care.
  • Demonstrate strong ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Understanding of the contributing factors of homelessness.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and professional boundaries with all clients served.
  • Ability to effectively and compassionately solve problems.
  • Understanding of the housing first model, harm reduction and strength-based case management
  • Ability to work with individuals who present boundaries to sustainable living.
  • Social and economic issues creating poverty, working successfully with practices and techniques related to people with low income to achieve greater self- sufficiency.
  • Knowledge of local social service resources/providers.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to follow through from beginning to end on tasks and projects.
  • Be culturally sensitive to diverse client populations.
  • Computer literacy with experience in Google, Slack, and MS Office applications.

Education:

While a formal education may prove to be helpful in this work, we welcome all forms of education including life experience, on-the-job training, and other formal training and certificates.

Compensation
Salary: $21.50 - $22.00/ hr.

Location
This is a full-time position located in Portland, Oregon at our village at 621 NE 76th Ave. The chosen candidate must have the legal right-to-work in the location in which they will be based. We are unable to sponsor visas or relocations for this role.
