SCOPE AND PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position is responsible for the overall implementation, development, and management of a comprehensive social services program that meets community needs in the city of Schenectady and Schenectady County. Responsible for the day-to-day delivery of services and management of the food pantry, emergency/direct client assistance, and special holiday assistance. Along with the Corps Officers, this position works on the development of funding, monitoring/reporting, and supervision of social services volunteers to achieve overall goals and objectives for the social services mission of the Corps.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Oversee The Food Pantry
  • Active participation as a member of the Schenectady Corps Team in strategic, operational, and programmatic planning and decision-making.
  • Assist in the management and monitoring for quality, impact, accountability, and outcome measurements, for all funding requirements, food bank, and food pantry coalition of the region.
  • Keep the Corps Officer informed of all matters that require approval by Divisional and/or Territorial Headquarters social services as well as issues in service needs, trends, and gaps.
  • Work in conjunction with the Corps Officer with the Schenectady Advisory Board and Corps Council.
  • With the Corps Officer, recruit, train, retain and engage with social services volunteers to build a robust and thriving volunteer program at the Schenectady corps.
  • Assist the Corps Officers in writing grants, reporting and compliance to support the overall fiscal operation of all social services program components


Community Responsibilities:

  • Alongside Corps Officer, function as a primary representative in grants, contracts, and reporting on any funds available through the city, county, state, and partner agencies or organizations.
  • Participate in local networks/ad-hoc task forces that promote access to SA, facilitate the development of potential new programs, and enhance service delivery to the community.
  • Support the Corps Officer with specialty programs, such as camp recruitment, back to school, Thanksgiving/Christmas, etc.
  • Provide needed program information/statistics to Development staff


Social Services Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and social services to walk-in, community referred clients, interview, comprehensive assessment, case planning and direct service provision/vouchers; food, emergency/direct client assistance, and community referrals.
  • Monitor and collaborate with Food Services Coordinator to assure the seamless operation of the Breakfast and Lunch Program
  • Collaborate with the Booth Home Director to define and build opportunities to introduce clients to core ministry programming/activities.
  • Maintain client files/service point client data management program.
  • Maintain statistics and track client services for distribution to; Salvation Army, HPNAP, OSP, UW/EF&SP, Food Pantries, etc. including tracking in-kind donations.
  • Order food, make arrangements for pick-up, unloading, and stocking of the food pantry, and assure pantry cleanliness.
  • Ensure social service programs are well maintained and in compliance with The Salvation Army and regulatory agency standards to the maximum extent possible.
  • Monitor timely submission, accuracy, and appropriateness of responses for all required reports, regulatory agency inspections, and follow-up on implementation of corrective actions.
Qualifications:

SPECIAL SKILLS, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum three years of experience
  • Demonstrated cultural competency in community/comprehensive social services programs.
  • Strong database, writing, and communication skills.
  • Access to a vehicle and valid driver’s license that meets The Salvation Army’s insurance requirements.
