Job Description
The Eighth Judicial District of the Iowa Judicial Branch is seeking candidates for a Judicial Specialist position in Court Administration in North Lee County (Fort Madison) and South Lee County (Keokuk). This position preforms a variety of tasks supporting the efficient operation of Associate and District Court. Travel between the locations will be required and to neighboring counties to assist as needed. Starting salary $36,441.60 annually, $17.52 hourly.

Responsibilities:
  • Schedule court proceedings with attorneys, self-represented parties and judicial officers.
  • Provide court users with accurate procedural information.
  • Direct court filings to judicial officers using a case management system.
  • Assist judicial officers inside and outside of the courtroom.
  • Maintain decorum during court proceedings.
  • Jury management and providing assistance to jurors/court personnel during trials.
  • Organize and maintain trial exhibits.
  • Manage court calendar and judge's schedule.
  • Prepare correspondence and answers public inquiries.
  • Opens court and ensures parties are present and court runs on time.
  • Coordinate transport of inmates through the Sheriff's office.
  • Draft orders and documents as requested by judicial officers.
  • Operate technology in the court room during court procedures.
Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited high school (or High School Equivalency) and two (2) years of successful completion of accredited post high school education in business, paralegal, computer, legal assistant or related program. Two (2) years of professional office experience in business, court or legal work or a related area with one (1) year of the experience involving customer service. At the discretion of the appointing authority additional years of experience may be substituted for the required post high school education.


Or, the successful completion of additional years of education (i.e., Bachelor’s Degree) may be substituted for years of experience on the basis that successful completion of thirty (30) semester hours or academic equivalent equals one year of experience. Education cannot be substituted for customer service experience. Must be bondable.
