Position Summary:

The Senior Payroll Specialist is a vital member of our team, working closely with the Director of Payroll in daily operations. As a subject matter expert in payroll processing, the Senior Payroll Specialist will utilize their comprehensive knowledge of PHS procedures and collaborate with the Director of Payroll to establish work plans, goals, and priorities. This role requires exceptional problem-solving skills, the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently, and the capability to assume key roles in unit projects and assigned tasks. The Senior Payroll Specialist will report to the Assistant Controller Accounting Operations.

Assumes the payroll director's responsibilities during times of absence. Serve as subject matter expert for payroll processing. Independently perform specialized tasks and problem resolution for complex issues while handling multiple issues and deadlines efficiently. Assume key roles in unit projects and assigned tasks.

Specifically, the Senior Payroll Specialist will:

  • Manage and prepare biweekly payroll, ensuring timely and accurate payment to employees, maintaining compliance with labor regulations, and standard accounting principles.
  • Process payroll on ADP and handling complex and sensitive payroll requests and issues, including wage garnishments, employee benefits, and payroll deductions.
  • Prepare relevant tax returns, IRS forms, payroll-related journal entries, and reports for managers and Finance.
  • Collaborate with HR and Benefits to resolve employee pay inquiries and payroll issues, as well as providing guidance on garnishments, child support, IRS levies, and pay practices.
  • Ensure smooth operation of the payroll department and participates in unit projects and assigned tasks.

Qualifications and Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other related field.

· 3 - 5 years of experience supporting time and payroll systems in a large corporate environment.

· In-depth knowledge of U.S. wage & hour laws, garnishments, and payroll tax withholding rules at the federal, state, and local levels.

· Demonstrated proficiency in ADP Workforce, ADP Payroll and ADP Reporting, Outlook and Excel.

· Strong written, verbal communication and analytical skills.

· Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and ability to multitask, organize and prioritize work activities.

· Ability to multi-task, organize, prioritize, and coordinate work activities.

· Experienced in managing garnishments, levies and direct deposits.

· Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

· Effective time management skills, balance competing priorities, prioritize and organize work activities.

· Salary: $90,000.00-$95,000.00
