What you will do:
Tillamook has an exciting opportunity on our finance and accounting team, which will interface not only with our larger team but also with the unique space to work and communicate directly with our farmer-owners Senior Patron Accountant role will be charged with supporting work surrounding additional role definition, process improvements, and longer-term growth of the Patron Accounting function.
The Senior Patron Accountant will lead the Patron Accounting team and be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate payment and reporting to our members/shareholders. Specifically, the Senior Patron Accountant will review and/or record journal entries and reconcile related general ledger accounts during the month-end close cycle. The role will provide support in annual audit processes and will need thorough understanding and application of GAAP. A strong candidate will have a demonstrated track record of working independently and is comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. This role will review and approve milk and equity payments and calculations and pay for services authorized to be deducted from milk checks prepared by Milk Accountant. The role will also support the Milk Account with farmer owner questions and reporting, including questions about distributions and calculation details of those payments.
The role will oversee a Milk Accountant responsible for processing milk receipts by calculating the value of milk based on the components within the milk delivered to TCCA.
Here’s a day in the life:
· Ensure the timely and accurate processing of milk receipts and calculation of payments based on components and volume
· Supervise, coach and develop Milk Accountant
· Work independently to support farmer owner questions related to monthly milk payments, assignments, and advances
· Assist leadership, in support of company objectives, in developing efficiencies in member relations support through commonly asked questions and standardized report development
· Support the Corporate Controller in accomplishing the requirements as set by the company which will include ensuring that all accounting entries are timely, accurate, and comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
· Lead company training as it relates to Member payments, Supply Rights, other Patron related topics
· Provide/oversee support to the farm service team and patrons as it relates to dairy pricing, payments, distributions, etc.
· Participate in cross-functional projects in support of best-in-class member relations
· Oversee the timely entry and balancing of daily receipts of fluid milk, data reflected on producer lab cards and accuracy of tickets and payments to milk haulers.
· Partner with costing team to accurately account for milk purchases and dairy costs as it relates to our products throughout the year and during month end close
· Participate in and supports ERP and Milk Payment system (MadCap) initiatives in relation to Patron Accounting or Costing
· Assist with pre-audit preparations including auditor interaction; Prepare interim and year-end audit work papers
· Prepares financial presentations (Board of Directors financial packages) and various ad hoc analyses for Senior Management
· Provide support for continuous improvement throughout the company
· Support Milk Accountant in their work with the lab and QA departments to verify the correct import of milk components and milk quality data.
· Ensure proper records retention, timely and accurate system updates reflecting membership structure or name changes, and filing of business name active with the State
· Work with legal counsel to resolve various legal issues that affect producer pay and membership
· Prepare monthly pool reports as required by the Federal Order Milk Market Administrator
· Support monthly Market Administrator reporting
· Oversee preparation and distribution of monthly milk checks, as well as accurate payments of revolving equity, dividends, and other distributions as directed by the Board of Directors
· Verify and issue 1099 PATR forms related to milk payments and equity distributions and 1099 DIV for dividends and 1099 INT for interest on accounts and 1099 G, if applicable.
· Ensure the correct calculation, set up, and provide paperwork on loans financed through TCCA
· Continuously drive efficiency in process for member payments and Market Administrator reporting
· Review all Milk Accounting journal entries for accuracy and completeness before posting during month end close.
· Reconcile all Patron related accounts during month end close.
· Communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
· Act as a supportive team player and be able to interact with staff at all levels of the company.
· Work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously.
· Creates and updates the yearly milk supply.
· Establish and maintain effective relationships with members, employees, supervisors, and the public
· Exercise internal control and confidentiality over all information processed.
· Demonstrate strong knowledge of GAAP, relevant government regulations and current accounting policies and procedures is required.
· Demonstrate knowledge of federal and state Milk Marketing Orders is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent education & experience
· 5 to 7 years of experience as senior accountant with experience working with cross-functional teams across the organization at all levels
· 1 to 2 years of people leadership experience
· Experience working in a Cooperative environment is a plus
· Must have strong knowledge of GAAP and fully understand accounting methodologies
· Exceptional computer skills and proficiency of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
· ERP system knowledge is required; D365 is a plus. Also use MPS (Milk Procurement System) software to calculate milk and equity payments
