    Leads schoolwide ROTC program including recruiting and retaining cadets, implementing and monitoring extra-curricular opportunities, investing in and supporting the school-wide community and instructing cadets using ROTC curriculum to teach scholars citizenship, leadership, service to community, teamwork, self-discipline, personal responsibility and enable scholars to set and meet their goals for life.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned.     • Teach Air Force JROTC curriculum to school’s corps of cadets
    • Equip and maintain facility and materials in accordance with AF JROTC regulations
    • Lead innovative and productive ongoing recruitment and retention practices within the school and school district
    • Collaborate with school programs and staff to invest in the school and create positive, productive partnerships between ROTC and the school community
    • Work with community officials to create a positive presence in the Federal Way community
    • Create and support a variety of extra-curricular activities including but not limited to tutoring, community service, Drill Team, Color Guard, Awareness Presentation Team, Strength Team, leadership camp and field work for students
    • Lead and participate in community events and community service opportunities within the school and surrounding area
    • Understand and align all instruction to the Washington State standards within AF JROTC curriculum framework
    • Enlist the assistance of counselors, administration, and other support personnel where appropriate.
    • Coordinate with other JROTC units to enhance opportunities for cadets
    • Establish and maintain clear parameters for student behavior in the classroom.
    • Create and foster a welcoming and connected environment for scholars that supports the development of citizenship, leadership, service, teamwork, self-discipline, responsibility and self-actualization



    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Oversee ROTC program and make appropriate and equitable delegation of tasks to best suit the strengths of each instructor and meet scholar and program needs.
    • Perform such classroom teaching and other duties related to the school program as may be assigned from time to time by the Principal or designee.
    • Organize the classroom setting to contribute to the learning process.
    • Actively support and participate in schoolwide efforts and initiatives
    • Follow all appropriate timelines and school and district policies



    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education and Experience
    Bachelor’s Degree

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Must be a retired Officer in the USAF in good standing
    Must be HQ AF JROTC Certified Instructor or willing to obtain prior to September 2020
    Must be AF retired Officer less than five (5) years
    Experience as an AF JROTC Instructor
    Positive experience with Community Relations
    Responsive to students and parents
    Have an understanding of high school climate and culture
    Successfully implemented leadership and service programs
    Successfully implemented field experience programs

    CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
    Criminal background clearance
    Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis, and any additional hours to meet program requirements as needed
    Permanent employment contingent upon obtaining a Washington State CTE Teaching Credential

    KNOWLEDGE OF:
    Techniques to motivate student learning via inquiry, discussion, and application of knowledge
    Organizing the physical and human elements in the educational setting
    Instructional and non-instructional human dynamics
    School board policies and procedures

    Maintain effective working relationships with other people.
    Provide instructional leadership
    Adapt instructional materials and strategies to accommodate the wide range of skills that exist in a classroom

    Provide guidance and assistance to students
    Meet responsibilities in a punctual and reliable manner
    Comply with school board policies and follow administrative procedures.
    Organize and perform job responsibilities efficiently and independently without close supervision
    Communicate effectively through spoken and written word; read and follow written or verbal communications
    Practice effective safety and security within individual work routines
    Practice ethical and professional standards of conduct including the requirements of confidentiality
    Relate effectively with parents, staff, students and the public in a multicultural and multiracial community

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach above and below their shoulders and bend/twist at the waist. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift up to 35 pounds. Occasionally push/pull up to 200 lbs.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions and regularly works near video display. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The position deals with frequent interruptions, and occasionally deals with angry and distraught students, parents and coworkers.

    WORK SCHEDULE
    This position is 11 months per year 8 hours per day

    Position reports to and will be evaluated by the building administrator, or designee

    Determined off of MIP (Minimum Instructor Pay) based on retired military grade
