LOCATION: Kona Community Hospital-Dietary

SALARY: $5,129/Month (WS08; BU01)

JOB DUTIES: This position is a working supervisor that supervises and participates in food preparation and service; preparation of regular meals and special diets under the direction of a qualified Dietitian. This position may be required to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.

THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.

EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:

  • Three (3) years of experience in quantity cookery of which one (1) year shall have been as a fully competent cook; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

CERTIFICATION:

  • None required.

LICENSURE:

  • None required.

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of: Kitchen management; quantity cookery; the use and care of cooking utensils and equipment; kitchen safety and sanitation requirements; principles and practices of supervision; menu planning; food purchasing and storage. Knowledge of catering skills, preparation and presentation desirable.
  • Ability to: Instruct and supervise others in cooking activities; estimate amounts of foods necessary to meet menu requirements; plan cooking activities to meet scheduled meal times; get along well with others; tolerate kitchen heat; perform heavy lifting, moving and carrying typical of the class.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically requires the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily. Disabilities in these or other areas will not automatically result in disqualification. Those applicants who demonstrate that they are capable of performing the essential functions of the position will not be disqualified under this section.

QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE: Possession of the required amount of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for the position. MERIT OR CIVIL SERVICE SYSTEM: You must meet the minimum qualification requirements, including education, experience, other public employment requirements for State Civil Service employment, and HHSC Standards of Fitness. COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT: COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment for Hawaii Health Systems Corporation. After receiving a conditional offer of employment, all prospective new HHSC employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. New employees are required to provide confirmation of their full vaccination status by presenting their CDC Vaccination card or VAS Certificate prior to their start date.
