The Business Operations department of South Dakota State Universities (SDSU) Facilities and Services is currently seeking a Senior Accountant to join our team! We are looking for someone with strong attention to detail, exceptional communication skills and the ability to grow and learn in this critical financial role. SDSU Facilities and Services is a fast-paced division of the university, providing maintenance and operations, planning, engineering and construction services to campus.
Job Responsibilities: Manage and provide direction and information at a high level on budget and fiscal matters for contracts and projects within the Facilities & Services Department. This will include monitoring resources, budget/financial performance, forecasting and trends analysis while working with Directors, Project Managers, and Maintenance Supervisors. Supervise and train Accountant, Accounting Assistant, as well as any possible accounting interns, temporary employees, and student employees.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Accounting and budgeting management for project or construction management
- Accounting practices/principles and able to apply in a variety of settings, including communicating information to Maintenance Supervisors, Project Managers, Engineers and Directors
- Familiarity working with a variety of funding sources
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel and Access
- Familiarity with forecasting methods and data analysis
- Supervision techniques
Skill & Ability to:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Self-directed
- Able to work with a variety of staff and communicate effectively on all levels
- Able to oversee the Room and Space Audit
- Ability to use critical thinking to create financial forecasts and make project budgeting recommendations
Preferred qualifications:
- Understanding of budgeting and regulatory requirements
- Lean process improvement knowledge
- Knowledge of University Banner
- Familiarity with AssetWorks, specifically AiM Operations & Maintenance module
