The Public Safety Corporal (Armed) applies the job skills necessary to provide a safe and secure environment for improving the health of our communities.

Responsibilities:
Conduct: Presents an outstanding professional image and uniform appearance. Complies with the NH Public Safety Standards of Professional Conduct. Patrol: Makes high visibility preventive patrols of campus on foot and in vehicles. Investigates suspicious activities and takes appropriate action. Responds to calls for service in accordance with established priorities. Operates patrol vehicles safely and in accordance with Novant Health and Public Safety policies and procedures. Controls pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Assists motorists. Enforces parking regulations in accordance with hospital or facility policies and procedures. Enforces applicable federal, state and local laws; and all Novant Health and hospital or facility policies and procedures. Detects and corrects or reports, fire, safety and other hazardous conditions. Promotes environmental excellence by detecting and reporting environmental conditions. Protects assets and prevents losses. Provides appropriate assistance to medical personnel and other staff members upon request. Access Control: Locks and unlocks facilities as scheduled or upon request. Makes security checks of facilities during non-operating hours. Controls patient and visitor traffic in Emergency Department. Responds to security breaches when detected or dispatched. Protective Services: Use nonviolent crisis intervention techniques. Physically controls patients when required; assists with physical interventions/patient restraints at the direction of, and under the supervision of appropriate clinical team members. Responds to all non-medical emergencies. When necessary, apprehends criminal violators and detains for arrest by responding law enforcement officers. Provides appropriate assistance to law enforcement officers upon request. Understands and complies with Novant Health Use of Force Continuum. Reporting and Investigations: Responds to reports of accidents, crimes and other incidents. Responds to all reports of narcotic discrepancies. Interviews complainants, victims and witnesses. Conducts preliminary investigations. Writes reports. May be designated to serve as an Officer in Charge in the Public Safety Sergeant's absence. All other duties as assigned.

1. Education: High School / GED required. 2. Licensure/Certifications: Type (ex NP, RN, CMA) IAHSS Basic and/or Adv Training Certifications within 6 months of hire. NCPPSB Armed Security Office Registration Permit within 12 months of hire. Additional Skills/Requirements (required) BLS/CPR within 90 days of hire through employment. CPI certification within six months of hire and maintained throughout employment. Must qualify for and maintain a North Carolina Private Protective Service Board Armed Security Officer Registration Permit in accordance with annual training and qualification standards established by Novant Health. Public contact experience. Satisfactorily completes all required organizational and departmental basic, field, and in-service training courses as well as courses that support our Emergency Management efforts such as decontamination or hazardous materials awareness training. Basic computer skills. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Ability to accurately receive and transmit information by radio and telephone. Ability to translate observations and information into legible, complete, and accurate reports. No criminal record. Maintains valid driver's license in the state of residence. Maintains compliance with the Novant Health Vehicle Use, Requirements & Guidelines Policy. Immediately notifies Director of Public Safety or Public Safety Manager of any and all charges relating to the operation of a motor vehicle and/or criminal complaint. Additional Skills/Requirements (preferred) Security, law enforcement or military experience. Healthcare Public Safety/Police.
