Overview:

Responsible for the development of all processes and procedures required to meet the day-to-day security operations relative to the physical security and protection of associates, guests, and assets. Reporting to the Director of Safety and Security, this individual will manage and implement policies, procedures, standards, and training to ensure safe operations and the provision of guest service by all Security Department associates.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure effective coordination between internal departments and external law enforcement, fire, medical, and other emergency resources responding to emergency incidents or special events.
  • Manage and motivate staff in a fast-paced, high energy, demanding 24/7 environment.
  • Collaborate with leaders on expense and labor budgets; ensure compliance by monitoring department expenses and seasonal labor requirements.
  • Participate in the recruiting, interviewing and selection of employees for the Security Department through on-site interviewing and off-site school visits and job fairs.
  • Manage the development, preparation and implementation of effective training programs for staff to ensure the highest levels of safety, service, courtesy, cleanliness and integrity. Oversees the scheduling and supervision of these employees. Coaches, counsels and, when necessary, disciplines employees.
  • Enforce all federal, state and city laws and ordinances on company property. Physically participates in the apprehension of individuals suspected of infractions, taking appropriate action including detention, ejection from park property, etc.
  • Respond to calls involving guest or employee illnesses and accidents; investigates and assists in providing emergency medical treatment as directed by park Safety employees. Completes reports on all incidents.
  • Adhere to and enforces all Cedar Fair and specific Park policies and procedures, including safety, attendance and EEO policies, and demonstrates commitment to customer service in all aspects of employment.
  • Develop and maintain industry contacts to remain informed on the latest security applications and issues.
  • Maintain oversight and quality control metrics for outsourced security vendors.
  • Ensure the appropriate security equipment and systems are in place and fully operational.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies and incidents as required.
  • Ability to travel by plane and/or car to attend out-of-state or off-site training/court sessions.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of five (5) years in people management, managerial and policy making experience in the security/safety field.
  • The ability to be commissioned through the KCPD Board of Police Commissioners and to maintain such commission throughout employment.
  • The ability to teach verbal de-escalation, control tactics, defensive tactics, use of oleoresin capsicum spray and handcuffing as a certified instructor.
  • An in-depth working understanding of police, fire, medical, and other emergency service provider procedures in responding to emergency incidents
  • A thorough knowledge of pertinent federal, state and city laws and ordinances.
  • The mental and emotional capability to make sound decisions quickly during potentially life-threatening situations in the event of a park emergency.
  • The ability to run, tolerate oleoresin capsicum spray and subdue a violent person by manipulation of pressure points and pain compliance techniques.
  • Must provide, maintain, and qualify annually on own registered duty firearm. (The company will provide ammunition for work-related needs.)
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with senior management, seasonal employees, and guests to accomplish goals and resolve problems.
  • The ability to effectively communicate with highly agitated and emotionally unstable person(s) during intense situations to solve problems and accomplish goals.
  • Basic analytical skills necessary to organize workload to establish priorities.
  • Writing skills to accurately explain or describe any accident or situation. Spelling, punctuation and grammar must be correct.
  • The ability to operate standard office equipment and the following: vehicle, firearms, standard hand tools, hand-held two-way radio, handcuffs, oleoresin capsicum spray, traffic wand & flashlight.
  • The ability to work nights, weekends, and holiday periods to meet business needs.
  • The ability to pass a mandatory (or random) drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by state or provincial law.
  • The ability to pass a background check, if 18 years of age or older, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law.

Preferred Candidate:
  • Advanced education in Security / Criminal Justice / Safety or equivalent.
  • Professional certification in Security, Law Enforcement, Safety or Risk.
  • Prior Military, Law Enforcement, and/or Corporate Security experience.
  • Experience in facility and event security issues, requirements, and best practices.
