Summary of Basic Function:
The Senior Security Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and securing system and network infrastructure. This includes endpoints, cloud, applications, and network devices such as firewalls, routers, switches, and wireless access points. This role will lead the evaluation, planning, deployment, and implementation of network and security solutions to align with security architecture standards and compliance requirements. The Senior Security Engineer will serve as an escalation point for junior staff and provide technical expertise and support for security incidents, problem tickets, user requests, and alerts within the environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of IT security trends, solutions, threat vectors, vulnerabilities and remediation's
  • Provide assurance of confidentiality, integrity, and availability of company data
  • Leads network and security investigations and incident response activities
  • Designs and implements network and security architectures based on defined requirements
  • Leads network and security projects as the technical point of contact
  • Evaluates and researches network and security solutions to enhance security hardening efforts
  • Implements cloud network and security solutions including Virtual Firewalls and Cloud Security Posture Management
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for network and security solutions including Antivirus (Endpoint Detection & Response), Host-based and Network Firewalls, IDS/IPS, e-mail security, Privileged Access Management, Secure Access Service Edge, Data Loss Prevention, and SIEM
  • Design, implement, and support network connectivity solutions including SD-WAN, Remote Access VPN and IPSec VPNs
  • Conduct periodic reviews of network and security controls to ensure adherence to compliance requirements and security best practice
  • Configure, deploy, and maintain network and security infrastructure using centralized management systems
  • Perform network and security device maintenance including upgrades and configuration changes
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve network issues using analyzer tools such as Wireshark and Tcpdump
  • Creates and maintains network and security architecture diagrams and documentation
  • Identify, document and report security gaps or issues to management
  • Provide support for problem tickets, requests, and security alerts
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff on completing job tasks
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Advanced experience deploying, configuring, and supporting firewalls, routers, switches, and access points
  • Advanced experience configuring, and supporting IPSec / SSL VPN, Web filtering policies, and next-generation firewall features such as SSL decryption, IDS/IPS and DNS Security
  • Strong experience configuring, deploying, and supporting EDR, DLP, SASE, PAM, and e-mail security solutions
  • Strong experience of network and security device management, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Strong proficiency in networking concepts such as network segmentation, SD-WAN, WLAN, VLAN, and routing/switching protocols
  • Ability to assist and mentor junior staff with job tasks as needed
  • Ability to collaborate with peers in the business and IT organization
Requirements:
  • Minimum 7+ years of relevant work experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in information systems, business management, computer science or closely related field, cyber security, or equivalent experience.
  • Must hold an active CISSP certification and one or more of the following certifications:
    • (ISC)2 Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP)
    • CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+)
    • CompTIA Network +
    • Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE)
    • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP or higher)
    • Fortinet Network Security Expert (NSE 4 or higher)
