Job Summary

This position is a temporary part-time position (up to 24 hours a week or as needed). It is a temporary grant-funded position under the supervision of a Circuit Court Judge and the Court Administrator, the Judicial Court Services Officer assists the judge in managing hearings in the courtroom (virtual hearings) and assists with case processing before and after court events. This position will be in place for approximately 1 year as permitted by the grant.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensures courtroom (virtual) is ready for court proceedings.
  • Manages virtual litigants prior to and during hearings.
  • Assists the judge in the courtroom during hearings and with any matters before and after hearings.
  • Uses electronic recording equipment to record court proceedings, including logging hearings and exhibits as needed.
  • Updates records in case management system as case events occur, such as dispositions, orders, and future hearing dates.
  • Performs a variety of administrative and clerical tasks such as preparing orders for the judge, processing paperwork for completed and upcoming court events, maintaining court files, speaking to litigants who contact the court.
  • Answers phone calls regarding cases and provides information to callers in response to routine inquiries.

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent. Some college preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of office or customer relations experience with a demonstrated knowledge of a variety of computer software and the capacity to continuously learn. Legal background and court experience preferred.
  • Certified Electronic Recorder (CER) preferred
  • Demonstrates honesty and integrity in all actions, follows through on all assignments, demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness through high quality work, and contributes a positive attitude, adapts to changes in legal requirements and technology, possesses ability to problem-solve and trouble-shoot, maintains a calm and helpful demeanor with others using the courts, desires continuous learning and improvement of work skills.

Paid Time Off (PTO):
Part-time employees are eligible for PTO benefits prorated based on schedule (below rates are based on 40 hours per week)
  • Start through fourth years – 144 Hours (3.6 weeks based on 40-hour work week)
  • Fifth through ninth years – 184 Hours (4.6 weeks)
  • Tenth through fourteenth years – 224 Hours (5.6 weeks)
  • Fifteen and Subsequent years – 264 Hours (6.6 weeks)
