Maryland Natural Resources Police Matapeake Complex: 306 Marine Academy Drive, Stevensville, MD, 21666 (Queen Anne's County)

Main Purpose of Job

The Seasonal Maintenance Position is responsible for the minor maintenance of vessels/vehicles/equipment to include washing/waxing/pressure washing vessels/vehicles, cleaning out vehicles/vessels, pressure washing vessel bottoms and preparing them for painting, painting vessels, minor cosmetic repairs including vinyl decal applications, non-skilled/minor vessel and trailer repair, use of hand tools and power equipment and other assigned duties.

Work shifts may vary, but would be primarily day work, Monday through Friday.

Please note: The selected candidate will work in the outdoor summer-climate environment, to include elevated heat indexes. The selected candidate will work near moving mechanical equipment and could be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, if safety guidelines are not followed and PPE that is provided is not used. The noise level in the work environment is moderate, but may be loud at times.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Be enrolled in High School or have successfully graduated from an accredited high school or be in possession of a high school equivalency certificate

Experience: N/A

Note: Applicants may substitute high school diploma/GED possession for references from previous work experience in the areas of marina employment and/or vessel repair facilities

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience with elements listed in Job Duties is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator’s License (or equivalent from another state) and have their own reliable method of transportation to and from the Matapeake Complex.
  • Be comfortable working outdoors
  • Be able to use a pressure washer
  • Have experience with painting tools
  • Be able to wash/wax vehicles/vessels
  • Lift at least 50 pounds (reasonable accommodations will be made per the ADA)
  • Ability to learn and retain skills that are provided that directly relate to the elements found in Job Duties.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must be provided prior to hire.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
