This position provides laboratory and scientific support within the Center for Genome Sciences (CGS) to cover CGS Genomic Characterization capabilities. The contractor shall conduct research investigations centered on Molecular Biology, Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), Immunology, Genetics, and/or Biochemistry or similar field. They will perform laboratory experiments/protocols directed by CGS PIs and Supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following:

  • Perform molecular protocols and technologies to identify microbiological pathogens, characterize pathogenesis mechanisms of BSATs and study the host immune response
  • Provide expertise in epitope mapping on polyclonal humoral responses
  • Development and improvement of animal model important for BSATs
  • Characterization of animal species genomic background, development and species-specific reagents, and comparative genomic to evaluate the model compared with humans
  • Generation of agnostic tools to evaluate the animal model and human samples with the same assays
  • Train and ensure SOPs, and sample and analytical workflows are followed, tracked, and documented
  • Maintain data records, updating records and SOPs as necessary
  • Review lab SOPs semi-annually IAW CGS guidelines
  • Prepare or contribute to technical reports and manuscripts for publication
  • Publicly present data upon request at conferences or other venues
  • Assist in the establishment of extramural collaborations and contracts
  • Update Lab Data weekly in a shared continuity folder for all publications/Quarterly Reports
  • Submit a Lab Progress Report monthly
  • Contribute to Quarterly Reports to funding agencies
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY

This position oversee the technical work of supporting personnel

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • PhD or the equivalent in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Biology, or a related field
  • 2+ years of Post-Doctoral experience
  • US Citizen

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proficiency in the following:
    • Phage domain programmable arrays
    • BCR repertoire characterization
    • Advanced Immunological concepts
  • Ability to conduct independent research
  • Ability to train junior personnel
  • SOP and workflow generation and review
  • Proficient understanding of the publication process, obtaining and formatting data, and research methodologies
  • Maintenance of laboratory records and documents and data management
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Multi-task in a high paced environment
  • Works well with others

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is conducted in a climate-controlled office or laboratory
  • Estimated Starting Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000 annually
