The mission of the WDFW Human Resources Division is to provide client services to employees, supervisors, and managers in creating a safe, supportive, and respectful work environment through comprehensive HR activities.

Reporting directly to the WDFW Emergency & Safety Program Manager, this position will work with other safety professionals in the Safety Office and be responsible for reviewing, developing, leading and administrating key elements of the enterprise WDFW Accident Prevention Program, Standard Operating Procedures, and Safety Office policies to all agency staff at all field, regional and Headquarters locations.

You will provide leadership, analysis, consultation, coordination, and safety program technical expertise to identify where controls systems need to be implemented to reduce or eliminate safety risks and loss.

This is an opportunity
to develop, administrate, and provide enterprise safety system support for all agency staff at all agency work locations.

Our Safety Systems Support position,

Develops, leads, implements, reviews, and administrates core enterprise WDFW Safety Program systems and APP elements:
  • Federal CDL Program.
  • Drug & Alcohol Testing Policy administration.
  • Firearm Background Checks.
  • Covid-19 safety programs, consultation, procedures, and data systems.
  • Contracted Safety Program Software systems.
  • Volunteer Safety Programs.
  • Accident Prevention Program development and performance audits.
  • Job Hazard Analysis data systems.
  • Defensive Driving (Federal DOT DDC-4) & Vehicle Fleet Safety programs.
  • Agency Safety Committee and Safety Council Operations.
  • Workplace Safety inspections, audits, and corrective action reviews.
  • SSIR Incident reporting systems.
  • OSHA 300 log/summary systems.
  • Safety Program data, metrics, dashboards, trends, and analysis.
  • Safety & Emergency Management web page development and maintenance.

Leads, implements, and administrates the following Natural Resource Building (NRB)/Headquarters based programs:
  • Emergency Communication Device systems -Radio, Everbridge, Satellite Phones, Emergency Com. Devices.
  • NRB/Warehouse Evacuation Teams, Systems, and Fire Drills.
  • Supports Emergency Management drill, tabletop, and exercise (TTX) programs.
  • NRB and Campus Safety Committee and Security programs.
  • NRB 6th floor Fish Lab Safety/Chemical Hygiene Plans.
  • ICS Safety Officer duties supporting agency Incident Management Teams.
  • Staff Medical Monitoring and Safety recordkeeping.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Work Setting, including hazards:
    • 80% Office: Duties are performed in an office setting. This position requires extensive computer use and use of an ergonomic sit/stand desk.
    • 20% Travel/Field: Work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, rain, or snow. Work in rough terrain, riverbanks, slippery slopes, and other surfaces in all types of weather conditions.
    • Must be able to negotiate water in emergency situations.
  • Schedule:
    • Core agency hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday, but may be required to work occasional weekends and evenings, depending on workload.
  • Travel Requirements:
    • Frequent travel may be required throughout the State to provide safety program support to field staff and offices, as well as attend training, meetings, and conferences.
  • Tools and Equipment:
    • Work will be done using a computer, phone and/or other safety program industrial hygiene sampling equipment.
  • Customer Interactions:
    • Excellent customer service skills are required as this position interacts with internal and external customers and stakeholders.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Closely related qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-by-year basis.


  • A Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, safety studies, natural science, business or public administration, education, or allied field.

And


  • Four (4) years of professional experience in occupational safety and health programs.

Please note:
  • A Master’s degree in occupational safety and health, safety studies, natural science, business or public administration, education, or allied field may be substituted for two (2) years of the above professional work experience requirement.

License:
  • Valid driver’s license.
Training:
  • First Aid, CPR and AED Certification to be completed within 6 months of employment.
Knowledge of:
  • Principles and practices of employee and public safety and health administration including safety and health education and training, accident investigation, self-inspection, record keeping, publicity, safety committee operation and other services common to employee and public safety.
  • Principles and practices of organization and management.
Ability to:
  • Interpret safety rules and policies.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and healthful working environment within the assigned unit.
  • Analyze and resolve a variety of safety and health problems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Certifications:
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP).
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
  • Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST).
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician.
  • Safety Trained Supervisor (STS).
