Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university
• OR additional appropriate experience will substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis
• Experience in the following fields, risk management, environmental safety or computer/network security

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of best practices for environmental safety and relevant system security procedures

Job description:

Security

• Approves Disability Determination Services (DDS) personnel applications for access to SSA systems.
• Conducts internal security self-reviews at least annually to ensure all security safeguards are being followed, and determines if new safeguards are needed.
• Monitors the security safeguards pertaining to all automated systems.
• Informs SSA of any security breaches, irregularities, problems or security related needs.
• Reports incidents and, where appropriate, works with the SSA Security Response Team to resolve incidents.
• Evaluates security procedures/measures in effect, conducts/provides training and orientation on all phases of security, and complies with security procedures provided by SSA.

Safety Plan and Training:

• Plans, develops, maintains and updates the DDS Security Plan.
• Evaluates safety procedures/measures in effect, conducts/provides training and orientation on all phases of building and employee safety and disaster management.
• Reviews, verifies and ensures all First Aid/CPR supplies are up to date and adequate to meet the needs of the onsite staff.

Department description:

This work unit exists to produce accurate and timely disability determinations for the residents of Colorado in a courteous and cost-conscious manner following Social Security Administration (SSA) rules and regulations. Disability Determination Services (DDS) receives applications from SSA and makes a medical eligibility determination. DDS gathers medical, psychological, functional, and vocational evidence to determine whether a claimant meets SSA’s medical eligibility criteria, and writes a justification rationalizing its determination.

When the Social Security Administration (SSA) added protection for the disabled in 1954, Congress mandated that state agencies, not federal offices, be responsible for disability decisions. The DDS fulfills that directive for Colorado, under the umbrella of CDHS, and provides oversight of all disability determinations made for Colorado residents.

Pay: $20.71 - $30.30 per hour
