Job description
Provides a variety of identified nursing services for staff/clients on an as needed basis including prevention, education and recognition of illness and injury to the maximum extent permitted by the Nurse Practice Act.
Description:


Administrative Duties
a. Maintains appropriate medical records to meet legal requirements and standards of good practice.
b. Maintains confidentiality of patients and obtains releases when necessary.
c. Effectively communicates with Director, CCH Management, other OHS staff and other Hospital departments.
Patient Care
a. Provides Tuberculosis Skin Testing (TST) and Respiratory Fit Testing (RFT).
b. Provides immunizations within CDC and MDPH Guidelines.
c. Works with the Infection Control Department, Occupational Health Services Staff and Department Managers/Directors to assist with outbreaks of infectious disease.
d. Uses standard precautions and good hand hygiene.
e. Demonstrates clinical expertise in occupational health practices including but not limited to pre-placement screenings, screening tests, respirator fit testing and vaccine administration
f. Maintains current knowledge of regulatory agency requirements (i.e. OSHA, DOT, NIOSH, CDC, DPH).
g. Provides off-site services as needed (i.e. TST, Flu vaccines, and Respirator Fit Testing (RFT).
h. Performs patient education functions focusing on patient need, learning style and ability.
i. Interprets and evaluates patient data including laboratory reports and screening tests and appropriately and in a timely manner, notifies MD/NP of abnormal findings.
j. Demonstrates proficiency in utilizing computerized documentation systems.

Additional Responsibilities
a. Performs other related duties as deemed necessary by the Director of Occupational Health Services


Qualifications:

  • Communicate effectively.
  • Provide superior service.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of patient confidentiality and informed consent.
  • Must possess teaching and counseling techniques.
  • Current Massachusetts Nursing Registration
  • Three to five years nursing experience, preferably in occupational health nursing.
  • Graduate of a Baccalaureate degree program preferred.
  • Certification as an Occupational Health Nurse (COHN), desirable.
  • Current CPR certification
  • Ability to use computer including Meditech, MOX, Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software programs.
  • Possess skills in independent decision-making, problem-solving, independent nursing judgment and communication.
  • Ability to maintain calm in stressful situations which involve difficult or demanding customers.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
