Barge Inspector

Ingram Barge Company is seeking a Barge Inspector to join our Barge Maintenance and Repair team. This Barge Inspector role will primarily support our dry cargo and tank barge fleets and will be based in and around Cincinnati, OH.

Barge Inspectors evaluate the condition of barges and schedule repairs with the corresponding repair facility; doing what it takes to get our equipment back on the river where it belongs! Your work ensures our barges are in top-notch condition and keeps our business humming along smoothly for a seamless customer experience. This is a role for those with a focus on customer service and do not mind getting their hands dirty in the process!

What you will be doing:

• Coordinating the scheduling of repairs of barges with the respective Logistics group and repair facility
• Initiating and maintaining cost estimates within the Ingram P.O. system
• Expediting repairs in a timely manner ensuring quality of work while tracking cost
• Updating the respective Logistics groups of any changes in completion of repair schedule
• Supporting department activities with regular and prompt attendance
• Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with vendors and USCG
• Being able to make quick decisions based off knowledge and experience
• Rotating a Thursday-Thursday on-call schedule with other barge inspectors for designated areas of coverage
• Responding to calls when inspection is needed to initiate the repair process
• Supporting department activities with regular and prompt attendance

What we are looking for:

• High School or GED required
• Associates degree preferred
• 0-1 years background in welding and marine repair policies, practices, and techniques preferred
• 6 months of marine experience-customer service or maintenance and repair experience preferred
• Ability to direct repair associates with routine & non-routine repair work.
• Ability to operate a single & Twin outboard engine work boat
• Ability to safely navigate in and along the inland rivers
• Prior experience serving as a USCG approved TBSIP Examiner preferred
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office
• Ability to travel on short notice
• Ability to work on-call, after business hours, and on weekends

What will also make you successful:

• Tank barge repair experience
• Prior participation in the USCG TBSIP Program
• Knowledge of USCG federal regulations
• Tankerman experience a plus
• Working knowledge of pumps and engines
• Metal fabrication and steel construction knowledge
• Experience with fiberglass cover repair
• Experience working in a team-orientated environment
• Highly self-motivated and directed

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $82,200.00 per year
