Colonial Williamsburg has an immediate opening for a talented Restaurant Manager for our two world-class fine dining rooms at the Williamsburg Inn. As a member of the dining room leadership team reporting to the Restaurant Manager, you will have floor management responsibility for ensuring delivery of exceptional guest service and managing staff performance. You will use your knowledge of food, wines and service to collaborate with your colleagues in developing menus, tastings and special events. The Williamsburg Inn was built in 1937 by John D. Rockefeller, Jr., who envisioned an exquisite lodging and dining experience for visitors to his extensive restoration of Virginia's colonial capital. A member of Preferred Hotels and Resorts Worldwide and a National Trust for Historic Preservation Historic Hotel of America, the Four Star, Four Diamond Williamsburg Inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Inn has been listed among Travel and Leisure Magazine's Top 100 Hotels in the World and Conde Nast Traveler Magazine's Top 100 Hotels in the world.

Duties summary:

  • Assists the Restaurant Manager with planning, coordinating, and managing the operation of the restaurant
  • Provides day to day supervision for Restaurant and Bar operations.
  • Manages the wine program and staff including wine selection, menu development and special wine programs/events
  • Spends approximately 70% of time in guest contact areas monitoring guest satisfaction through face-to-face contact and written communication
  • Interviews, hires, trains, counsels, appraises performances, and terminates employees.
  • Assists with formulating and updating service training manuals and ensures the adequate training of all service personnel
  • Assists with monthly staff meetings; attends biweekly divisional meetings in absence of Restaurant Manager
  • Offers input to the Restaurant Manager and Restaurant Chef for seasonal Restaurant menus
  • Insures positive guest relations by listening to guest comments and resolving issues as appropriate
  • Encourages, promotes, develops, and mentors team building for employees in guest service areas

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age to meet Virginia A.B.C. code § 4.1-307
    Working knowledge of food, beverage, service, and payroll cost control methods
  • Ability to 1) communicate well both orally and in writing; 2) exercise high levels of tact and discretion; 3) demonstrate extreme courtesy and hospitality in stressful situations and 4) work flexible shifts that include nights, weekends and holidays
  • Qualifications generally gained through a four-year degree in Restaurant Management or Business Management plus two years of supervisory experience in fine dining operations, or a two-year degree in Restaurant Management plus 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience including two years of supervisory experience in fine dining operations, or a High school diploma or GED plus 4-6 years progressively responsible experience including three years of supervisory experience in fine dining operations.

Preferred: Sommelier certification and proficiency in wine operations
