Respite/Personal Assistant for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities

Advancement for Behavioral & Educational Development & Intervention, Inc (ABEDI, Inc.) is seeking an energetic, motivated and dependable individuals to join our growing team of Behavior Respite Companions (BRC), Personal Assistants (PA), and Mentors(PRIDE) in the San Fernando Valley (Woodland Hills, Van Nuys, Chatsworth), and Santa Clarita area.

The BRC/PA will provide individual support services to children and adults with developmental disabilities (autism, down syndrome, intellectual disability, etc.) who may also engage in challenging behaviors. Specialized Respite services will be provided in the home and community.

PRIDE is a community-based program where the Mentor will work one on one with a client and will work on their individualized goals. For example, many have vocational goals, social goals, and communication goals. Many also volunteer, and you would support them at those sites. The mentor currently provides transportation for them, and you are supervised often. This can be up to 30 hours per week, depending on the client’s schedule/needs.

Job duties include: support with activities of daily living/self-care, self-direction, leisure and recreational activities, and other skills as developed in the Individualized Service Plan. Staff must have the ability to provide written documentation of service provided.

Qualifications:

• 18 years old with High School diploma
• CPR/First Aid Certification
• CA drivers license and a clean driving record within 5 years.
• Pass criminal background check and LiveScan fingerprinting (FBI/DOJ)
• Able to lift minimum of 20 pounds, frequently move about and bend down.
• Assist with mobility
• Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with supervisor(s) and families.
• Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and/or experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred but not required.
