Job Title: Residential Technician (Level I, II, III, and PRN)
Reports To: Residential Technician Supervisor
Type: Full-Time (Shifts: 6:00am-2:00pm, 2:00pm-10:00pm, and 10:00pm-6:00am)
Location: Adelaide Residential

Purpose

Residential Technicians, under the supervision of the Residential Technician Supervisor, are responsible for completing tasks related to management of client behavior in the therapeutic residential program. Residential Technicians maintain the client activity schedule, supervise clients, and assists clients in benefiting from program services through the use of appropriate crisis prevention and de-escalation skills. Residential Technicians document client behavior, participation in programming, and communicate pertinent client information to other members of the multidisciplinary clinical team. The Haven endorses a trauma-informed care approach and a medical model of SUD treatment.

Additional Purpose for Residential Technician I

The Residential Technician I, under the supervision of the Residential Technician Supervisor, acts in a lead position and assists the Residential Technician Team in maintaining smooth operations during each assigned shift.

Essential Functions

Maintains close collaboration and communication with Residential Technician Supervisor
Ensures the day-to-day operations of the residence, conforming to health laws, and Haven policies while providing a permanent record by documenting all client activity
Maintains order, enforces rules, and schedules in a manner that encourages responsible attitudes among clients.
Imposes restrictions, curtails privileges, conducts room searches, and informs supervisor when necessary
Monitors clients when taking medication and allows a client to take approved medications in accordance with Dr.’s orders and Haven policies.
Keeps monthly medication records current and gives records to the Residential Technician Supervisor at the end of the month.
Maintains monthly medication sheets for each client.
Monitors clients’ activities. Knows where the clients are at all times. Makes rounds to visit clients. Meets visitors. Checks each client’s room during rounds.
Monitors and verifies completion of each chore. Checks chores daily at 9 AM, 5 PM, 9 PM, and when necessary.
Oversees meal preparation and monitors kitchen clean up after meals on the weekends or when kitchen staff are unavailable.
Encourages clients to form healthy eating habits by acting as a role model.

Additional Essential Functions for Residential Technician I

Assists Residential Technician Supervisor with all aspects of schedule implementation, including tracking staff days off, and completing monthly schedule changes. Coordinates with the Residential Technician Supervisor to ensure appropriate coverage for shift gaps
Ensures training of new Residential Technicians in all duties and monitors new Residential Technician’s progress in conjunction with the Residential Technician Supervisor
Delegates Residential Technician duties to provide equity as needed
Facilitates Shift Change Report
Ensures Residential Technicians are providing quality service and are following proper procedures
Assists the Residential Technician Supervisor in the development of strategies to improve the resident experience
Functions as a role model and resource to all clients and Residential Technicians.
Provides direct client services by meeting and greeting new clients and ensuring that new clients are welcomed and fully orientated to the program, schedule, and processes.
Ensures the Residential Technician Supervisor is updated on important issues relevant to clients and staff
Provides Residential Technician trainings in conjunction with the Residential Technician Supervisor as needed
Completes daily billing notes when assigned by the Residential Technician Supervisor

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Conducts a search upon intake for contraband in client belongings. Searches personal property as needed.
Maintains a record of clients’ activities away from the Haven so that each client can be located at all times.
Ensures that each client attends scheduled programs and outside AA meetings.
Monitors the arrangement of rides to outside meetings.
Maintains an atmosphere of caring to encourage clients to seek assistance on immediate personal problems, as needed. Is available for consultation and assistance in solving problems.
Supervises visiting hours and client privileges, while on duty.
Ensures open line of communication throughout the day with the front office
Ensures that clients follow the medical treatment plan as directed by the Residential Technician Supervisor and make sure medications are available for them to take at appropriate times.
Maintains a record of client volunteer work and work completed.
Adheres to Haven smoking policy.
Encourages clients to develop good grooming and dress habits. Enforces dress and behavior codes and enforces client curfew.
Attends treatment team meetings when on duty, to help maintain flow of information
Reports clients who do not attend program, or meetings.
Performs other related duties as assigned by the Residential Technician Supervisor, Residential Technician Coordinator, or Residential Program Manager

If the Residential Technician is unable to resolve a problem with a client, she must take the problem to the client’s counselor during regular hours. If the problem is urgent, the Residential Technician must bring it to the attention of the clinical staff as early as possible. If the Residential Technician suspects a client of drinking or using drugs she must have the client do a UA drop and/or a saliva test immediately.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities for Residential Technicians working 10:00pm-6:00am

Conducts client bed checks and documents this in the client records
Remains awake at all times though out the night
Assist with patient wake-up and preparations for the treatment day
Performs other clerical duties as assigned by the Residential Technician Supervisor

Utilizes all available means to communicate effectively and efficiently with the clinical team
Pursues established training goals and objectives

Medical Record Documentation:

Adheres to all Haven policies and procedures relating to documentation in the client record
Completes shift note documentation according to Haven standards
Documents client behaviors and symptomatology in the client’s record
Documents any incidents or unusual occurrences per Haven policy and procedure

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required
A valid Arizona Driver’s License with a clean driving record is required
Must have an Arizona Non-IVP Level-1 Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain it during employment
Must have current CPR and First Aide Certification or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire
Must be at lease 21 years of age upon hire
Excellent communication and customer services skills required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
Ability to adjust hours to provide best coverage for resident’s needs required
Ability to take direction and communicate in a professional manner with co-workers required
Continued education and related workshops are encouraged in areas relevant to work performed
Knowledge of computer operations and Microsoft Office required
Must have a valid Arizona Food Handlers Card or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire

Additional Qualifications for Residential Technician I

An Associate’s degree or higher is preferred
3 years or more experience in behavioral health required
Past supervisor experience a plus
Proven leadership ability required with documented leadership training

Additional Qualifications for Residential Technician II

2 years or more experience in behavioral health required

Additional Qualifications for Residential Technician PRN

PRN Staff are required to work a minimum of 3 shifts per month to maintain employment

Extent of Public Contact

Interacts with external entities, with all levels of Haven personnel and with Haven clients
