Office of Residence Life
Full Time

The Office of Residence Life is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Hall Director. This individual will provide primary leadership in one or two residence halls of approximately 300-650 students and supervision of a staff of Resident Assistants. Additionally, the Hall Director will advise Residence Hall Association representatives, develop and oversee retention initiatives, and provide duty coverage for the campus.

The Southeast Missouri State University Office of Residence Life applies a student-centered approach to its work with students and their parents who have questions, concerns, complaints or issues with the Office of Residence Life.

In support of this role, our residential programs and services enhance the development of college students through the integration of the classroom and co-curricular educational experiences.

Primary Responsibilities


  • Supervise 7-17 undergraduate Student Staff Members
  • Coordinate the development and evaluation of student staff
  • Assist with the coordination of student staff selection and training
  • Develop an inclusive, academically supportive community of 300-650 students
  • Create intentional efforts to interact with students and provide opportunities for student growth and development
  • Advise Residence Hall Association representatives for halls
  • Adjudicate violations of housing policies
  • Manage hall facilities, budget, and occupancy
  • Assist staff in assessing student needs and provide educational and social programs to effectively meet those needs
  • Participate in crisis management and emergency response for hall and campus
  • Initiate and maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, family members, and external constituents with a variety of experiences
  • Serve as a University spokesperson at campus events
  • Working with office initiatives, including with Special Interest Housing and other academic initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (May 2023 graduates will also be considered); Master's Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Counseling or other field is a plus
  • Knowledge of or experience as a hall supervisor or with campus leadership
  • Demonstrated understanding of and a strong commitment to the development of students and residence hall communities
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and take initiative beyond general job expectations
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated innovative approaches in problem-solving
  • Demonstrated ability to develop communities through programmatic efforts
  • Experience working with the Microsoft Office suite or other computer programs
  • Experience advising student organizations or working with academic support initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service
