Research Technician
- (3232783)GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Major duties will also include:
- Executes protocols of non-routine experiments.
- Assists Fellows, staff, and PI with determining the most suitable methodology.
- Performs basic design and modification of protocols.
- Calculates, transcribes and analyzes data.
- Prepares and presents reports.
- Organizes and summarizes acquired data, using scientific and statistical techniques.
- Organizes and/or drafts material for the preparation of
research papers, manuscripts, or other documents
for publication and/or presentation.
- Participates in the design of experiments or field work.
SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Experience using techniques such as minipreps, Western analysis, gateway cloning, microinjection, transgenesis, confocal imaging, and human cell culture sought. Animal handling and husbandry experience with zebrafish and/or mice highly desired but not required.
Additional Competencies required:
- Ability to work independently and as team member
- Analytical skills and ability to resolve technical problems
- Ability to interpret acceptability of data results
- High Degree of computer literacy
- Demonstrated competence in research techniques and methodologies.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in or around wet conditions in the zebrafish facility and requires the ability to lift 25 pounds. The individual will also be expected to help with mouse handling, human cell culture in a BL2+ hood, and general bench science.
EDUCATION:
Candidates must have a BS. MS desirable.
EXPERIENCE:
At least 1 year of prior related laboratory experience that can include training in laboratory-based classes or practicum.
