Duty Schedule:

Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Summary/Objective of Position:

Research Project Specialist will work closely with the project coordinator and team members to plan, implement and evaluate maternal and child health related project activities. Administrative duties include generating and submitting purchase requests, scheduling meetings, attending meetings on behalf of supervisor and taking notes. Must have an understanding of Navajo cultural implications, public health principles, and research practices.

  • Assist project director in reaching project objectives in planning, implementing and evaluating strategies.
  • Manage project details, schedules, and tasks.
  • Assist in facilitating team and committee meetings.
  • Mentor students in learning public health principles and research.
  • Attend local, state and tribally led meetings in-person and virtually.
  • Assist in creating audio and printed culturally inclusive maternal and child health resources, materials, data reports and presentations.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience


Minimum:

Associate of Science in Public Health (or related degree in health occupation, psychology social work, or similar area) and 2+ years of experience working with a health program or research program.

Preferred:

Bachelor of Science in Public Health (or related degree in health occupation, psychology social work, or similar area) and 2+years years experience working with a grant or research program.


Knowledge:

  • Knowledge in creation of curriculum and supporting materials.
  • Knowledge on Public Health principles and program planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Speak and understand some Navajo.
  • Knowledge and understanding of social determinants of health on the Navajo Nation.
  • Understand Navajo cultural teachings and Navajo population.
  • Understand research, data collection, analysis, and dissemination.
  • Knowledge of the workings of grant funded projects.

Skills:

  • Professionalism and organizational skills.
-Communication skills- written and verbal.
  • Facilitation of groups or meetings.
  • Computer usage including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and Adobe software.

Abilities:

  • Must be self-motivating and work independently.
  • Able to work collaboratively with team and stakeholders in a virtual setting.
  • Able to take initiative on project activities and management.
  • Able to learn new software programs.
  • Able to work from home with reliable internet connection.
  • Able to promote self awareness, academic development/achievement, knowledge and skills, and seek academic counseling.

Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:

Located in Shiprock, NM but can be a remote position with daily check-in and check-out duties.
