Job Summary
Auburn University is excited to recruit for a Research Assistant position within the College of Veterinary Medicine!
This position provides administrative and professional support to research programs and projects. Responsible for equipment, materials, and support of laboratory operations. Provides routine support of protocols/plans, documentation, observation, and data collection. Records, processes, interprets and presents data. Work includes receiving and archiving biological specimens in -80 freezer, nucleic acid extractions, electrophoresis, sequencing library preparations, PCR, quantitative PCR, quality control using TapeStation, fluorimeters, and spectrophotometers, as well as other genomics lab tasks. Work is performed under general guidance and is checked for compliance with protocols/plans; the incumbent is expected to make some independent judgments and decisions. Effective communication skills are preferred for collaboration with DCSITE team members and other institutions.

The individual selected for this position will be working with the DCSITE program team, which provides expertise in all areas of detection canine science to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, integrating best scientific practices in analytical chemistry, genetics, genomics, reproduction, veterinary and sports medicine, olfactory neuroscience, behavior and cognition, metrology and engineering to advance detection canine sciences. Bachelor’s degree in discipline appropriate to position (biological sciences, molecular biology, microbiology, animal sciences, or other related discipline). No experience is required.

Possesses general knowledge in the field of research, and has working knowledge of equipment, materials and processes related to lab/facility operations, including procedures for observation, documentation and data collection.
Regularly involves lifting, bending or other physical exertion. Often exposed to one or more elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., with one often to the point of being objectionable. Injuries may require professional treatment.
