THE POSITION

The Department of General Services is seeking a Maintenance Repairman to work in the Governor's Executive Residence. This position performs a wide variety of maintenance and grounds keeping functions in order to maintain the efficient operation of the interior and exterior of the Governor’s Residence. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Maintenance Repairman 1 works directly with the Maintenance Repairman 2’s (MR2’s) to perform minor maintenance repairs including electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry and masonry. In coordination with the MR2’s, this position replaces electric light fixtures and switches, and repairs non-motorized electric equipment such as heaters, lamps and electrical fixtures. This position performs general carpentry work in the alteration, repair and maintenance of buildings, floors, doors, doorframes, wood fixtures, and furniture.

The Maintenance Repairman 1 also performs major cleaning duties, such as buffing floors, etc, and constructs scaffolding and ladders and performs duties that must be accomplished at heights, such as cleaning lights, chandeliers, and any other hard to reach areas. This position monitors and maintains appropriate stocking of storeroom supplies, including all paper products, light bulbs, cleaning products, and household tools/utensils utilized at the Governor’s Residence. The Maintenance Repairman 1 also participates in snow and ice removal and is subject to emergency call in the event of adverse weather conditions and emergencies. This position also assists in overseeing the recycling program at the Governor’s Residence; ensures that all recyclables are properly sorted, marked, and disposed of.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment.
  • An employee in this position will be considered an essential employee who will be required to report to work during emergencies and office closings.
  • Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. The employee in this position may be required to work different shifts to accommodate the needs of the First Family.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Two years of experience in general maintenance work which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.
Necessary Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
