Job description
Wheaton Eye Clinic is a nationally recognized multi-sub-specialty ophthalmology practice located in the Chicago suburbs with six offices and a single specialty surgery center. Our 32 ophthalmologists and 7 optometrists provide nearly 175,000 patient visits annually. We are currently looking for a qualified candidate to add to our team.

The Patient Access Registrar is responsible for the accuracy and completeness of patient registration including insurance information and coverage. The Registrar reviews, verifies and updates individual insurance policies to ensure policies are active and billing requirements are being met for claim accuracy and reimbursement.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Schedule appointments
  • Complete patient registration
  • Register and verify insurance
  • Interacts with patients and their representatives to proactively collect all required demographic and insurance data
  • Ensures financial protocols and requirements are met
  • Directs patients to Patient Accounts for payment/financial arrangements regarding outstanding balances
  • Conducts limited front desk and cashiering duties
  • Utilizes online payer resources
  • Identify and resolve registration errors
  • Research and follows up on insurance eligibility problems
  • Update insurance information and system notes regarding eligibility
  • Handle all insurance eligibility-related patient inquiries, problems and concerns in accordance with Wheaton Eye objectives and goals
  • Prompt follow up with eligibility issues to ensure charges go out in a timely manner for payment
  • Work with providers and staff to ensure eligibility issues are addressed
  • Handle all other duties as assigned by Manager/Supervisor
  • Attend all department meetings as required
  • Follow all HIPAA and Wheaton Eye Clinic guidelines regarding patient privacy
  • Additional duties as required

Requirements:

  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to resolve customer service issues and/or escalate to Manager as needed
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical office background handling insurance verification and eligibility
  • Ability to read, write and speak in a clear and professional manner
  • Excellent follow through skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, be resourceful and meet deadlines
  • Ability to adapt to changing workflows, processes and work queues
  • Ability to adapt and work in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Must maintain confidentiality of work - related information and materials
  • The candidate must be computer literate and skilled in Office Windows applications (Word, Excel, etc.)

Experience with Epic EMR system strongly preferred

Spanish speaking bilingual preferred

Weekly schedule Monday, Tuesday, Friday 8:30 am-5:30 pm, Wednesday, Thursday 9:30 am - 6:30 pm, Saturday (2/month) 7:30 am - 12:00 pm
