The Float Pool RN performs nursing duties in accordance with hospital policy procedure, may function as a charge nurse or staff nurse, and supervises other nursing personnel who are responsible for patient care. Capable of making independent decisions in the majority of situations and is therefore able to direct patient care that is provided by others. Serves as a resource to other employees. Is responsible and accountable for prescribing and coordinating all nursing care provided on the unit utilizing the nursing process.

Two years of related experience. Requires working knowledge of specialized practices, equipment, and procedures.

Licenses & Certifications
  • Georgia Registered Nurse License or Multistate Nursing License
  • Healthcare Provider (CPR)

  • Must be a team player
  • Must be able to adapt to multiple work environments in variety of different types of nursing units.
  • BLS required within 30 days of hire.

  • AGE APPROPRIATE CARE: Demonstrates the behavior, skills and knowledge to provide age appropriate care for all populations served to include the: ability to communicate, assess developmental level, physiologic norms, signs and symptoms of neglect, immunization status, and emotional response to stress.
  • COMMUNICATION TEAM WORK CONDUCT : Demonstrates the ability to the care team by communicating and working effectively with others to promote safe, efficient care. Maintains confidentiality in compliance with the standards and policy for Private Medical Record. Communicates with patients, visitors and families in a manner which promotes patient satisfaction.
  • DOCUMENTATION AND MANAGEMENT OF THE MEDICAL RECORD: Responsible for documentation of patient care in compliance with policy and standards. Knowledgeable in the review of data within the electronic record. Consistently utilizes the eMAR to document medication administration in compliance with standards of safe medication administration. Knowledgeable in the management of orders utilizing the Provider Order Management system
  • PROVISION OF CARE: Responsible for the daily for the prioritization and coordination of patient care through: Assessment, Planning, Implementation of the plan of care, and Evaluation of the patient's response to care provided, independently attending to the patients biophysical and psychosocial needs. Supervision of the care provided by LPN staff and nursing technicians. Effectively understands and operates equipment appropriate to the departments scope of care and patient population. Administration of medication in compliance with standards of safe practice and facility standards. Knowledgeable and effectively participates in special procedures and skills appropriate to the departments scope of service and patient population. Demonstrates the ability to work safely and responsibly.
  • STANDARDS POLICY & PROCEDURE: Responsible for knowledge of policies & procedures and Standards related to the provision of safe medical care: including TJC, Georgia Board of Nursing, Infection Prevention, Core Measures, EMTALA, and CMS. Responsible for completion of required facility and departmental education under the direction of the department manager (to include HealthStream modules, Skills Competency Review, BLS, and others as instructed.)
  • PARTICIPATION IN THE GENERAL UNIT OPERATION: Responsibly manages resources in a conscientious manner. Leads care team in the cleaning and storage of equipment in compliance with Infection Prevention standards. Seeks and identifies opportunities to improve care, patient flow or utilization of resources. Participates in process improvement initiatives for the department and facility as directed. Participates in the orientation and supervision of new employees and students.

Compliance Statement
Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Hotline.

Supervisory Responsibility

Team governance where the Members evaluate, interview, and recommend personnel actions.

Work involves a variety of problems in a general field, some of which are complex. Involves some independent judgment to decide what to do to assemble facts, determine variations from standard procedures, or plan other action to be taken to meet general objectives.

Medium physical effort - Lifts, carries, or handles lightweight (1 to 25 lbs.) materials or equipment for most of the day. Occasional physical effort with medium weight objects (25-60 lbs.). Very occasional physical effort with heavy objects (over 60 lbs.).Works in reaching or strained positions for about half of day.
