The Adult Infusion Centers at Mt. Zion and Mission Bay service the Medical Oncology population at UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center as well as any non-oncology infusion needs of patients at UCSF. The treatments include but are not limited to chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, blood transfusions, hydration and electrolyte therapy, injections and blood draws, enzymes and iron infusions, and antibiotics. The centers collectively consist of over 100 chairs/beds and treatments include research and standard of care infusions. The infusion centers are staffed by Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Medical Assistants, and Practice Coordinators.

The Cancer Acute Care Clinic (CACC) services the Medical Oncology and Surgical Oncology population at UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Same-day/urgent evaluations are offered through referrals from a UCSF Oncology provider. The CACC is staffed by an oncology trained Advanced Practice Provider, Registered Nurse, and Medical Assistant for management of symptoms related to cancer, cancer treatment, or comorbid conditions that they are unable to manage at home.

The CACC Infusion Clinical Nurse II provides care to outpatient oncology patients with worsening symptoms that require same-day/urgent care. This nurse is experienced and highly skilled with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the cancer and non-cancer disease processes, the major treatment modalities, symptom management, supportive care, oncological emergencies, and patient education. The nurse utilizes an interdisciplinary approach across the continuum of care with adherence to National Patient Safety Goals set forth by regulatory requirements. The nurse is recognized and utilized as a clinical resource and demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the unit and the organization

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NCI-Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and the depth and breadth of the research in basic, clinical and population science. As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, we demonstrate the added depth and breadth of research as well as substantial transdisciplinary research that bridges these scientific areas. The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses as well as regional satellite locations. The clinical cancer program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Medical Center and encompasses roughly 230 non-physician FTEs, 90+ cost center, and dozens of grant and philanthropic funding sources. At the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center we are truly pioneering care and leaders in all areas of cancer clinical care and research. Required Qualifications

  • Current Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certification within 6 months of hire date.
  • Two (2) or more years of recent adult emergency department, acute care or intensive care experience that demonstrates experience caring for the oncology population; or two (2) or more years of outpatient infusion center oncology nursing experience.
  • Experience administering infusions, pain management, transfusion therapy, hydration, etc.
  • Knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to this position
  • Demonstrates evidence of basic analytic thinking necessary to care for a group of complex patients such as oncology, urgent, or emergent acute care needs, and a high degree of attention to detail
  • Must demonstrate observational skills and the ability to set priorities. Ability to function independently and effectively with shifting priorities and considerable pressure
  • Must be able to function under stress and with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must demonstrate effective skills in applying hospital standards in area of service, teamwork, communication, respect for others, and time/priority management. See also Living Pride Standards
  • Ability to delegate tasks in a style that is consistent with promoting leadership and teamwork, seeking assistance as needed; ability to demonstrate leadership experience that support teamwork, professionalism, high quality patient experience, evidence based clinical practice, or other relevant topics
  • Demonstrates ability to develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with physicians, nurses, and other medical staff. Contributes to team building through participation in unit programs and meetings; contributes to positive morale, using constructive and effective conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrates ability to remain current in professional and technical knowledge and apply this to the job; looks for opportunities for continual improvement in patient care, the work environment, and a commitment to lifelong learning in the field of nursing
  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health MB-based Adult Infusion Centers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) provider certificate
  • Three (3) or more years of adult Oncology Nursing experience or adult emergency or acute care nursing experience.
  • OCN Certification or other relevant specialty certification, such as Acute/Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) or Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN)
  • Experience administering chemotherapy/biotherapy.
  • Membership in professional organizations is recommended
  • Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certification prior to hire

License/Certification

Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
