Position Description

This recruitment is only open to current classified employees in state service with at least six months of continuous, full-time equivalent service who currently work at the Department of Veterans Services.


Registered Nurses provide general or specialized professional nursing care in accordance with the authorized scope of practice specified in the Nurse Practice Act. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

Southern Nevada State Veterans Home (SNSVH). located in the rural community of Boulder City, Nevada, is recruiting for a Registered Nurse 5 position. The position is responsible for overseeing SNSVH Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) Program. In addition, the position will provide management relief which will include the direct supervision of a team of Certified Nursing Assistants and Feeding Assistants; and indirect supervision of Registered Nurse 4s and Licensed Practical Nurses 2s. The incumbent will track and monitor all data regarding the QAPI program; prepare reports and maintain records in accordance with State and Federal regulations, and the State of Nevada records retention schedule; assume chair responsibility for quarterly QAPI committee meetings; coordinate the MDS/Care Plan process as assigned for Restorative Nursing Assistant program and provide direct supervision of three Restorative Nursing Assistant (CNA 2) positions; coordinate and oversee the educational programs for the SNSVH; implement and oversee the Feeding Assistant Program, train and supervise Feeding Assistants, and review and approve contract agency timecards; plan and coordinate the Nick Crombie Nursing Assistant Training Program, up to 4 times per year; and perform duties associated with the Registered Nurse 5 classification, as needed to support the SNSVH and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and three years of professional nursing experience, one year of which included providing patient care in a skilled nursing facility (e.g., convalescent or nursing home) or ensuring regulatory compliance of skilled nursing facilities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • A Bachelor's degree in Nursing is equivalent to a diploma or Associate's degree in Nursing and one year of experience.
