Regional Compliance Officer, Latin America & the Caribbean

The role of Regional Compliance Officer, Latin America & the Caribbean, will oversee and manage the compliance needs for the businesses within the region. The candidate will be required to develop a strong understanding of the businesses and the legal and regulatory framework within which each business operates. The candidate will identify and prioritize compliance risks, have a working knowledge of all applicable regulations applicable to Gallagher, advise key stakeholders on compliance issues and their impact, and proactively work to find solutions.

Preferably the position will be located in Miami, Florida. The candidate will report to the Global Chief Compliance Officer and support our businesses in the region, including those in Colombia, Peru, Chile, Brazil, and Barbados among others. In country compliance officers will report directly to the candidate. The position will work closely with Compliance leadership and functional leaders with Latin American operations, and other global colleagues and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, including Gallagher’s senior management and compliance resources in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as other Gallagher functions (e.g., financial crime team, high risk accounts committee, human resources, finance, internal audit, IT, risk management) to identify and minimize compliance risks and drive implementation of compliance initiatives in the region.
  • Continually develop, drive and implement processes, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Gallagher’s Global Standards of Business Conduct as well as anti-corruption laws and regulations such as FCPA, OFAC, and other local laws and regulations in each jurisdiction.
  • Maintain an ongoing monitoring program to measure the effectiveness of Gallagher's compliance program in the region and to identify successes and as well as areas for further improvement.
  • Prepare reports on compliance initiatives and present to Gallagher’s regional senior management and Board of Directors as required.
  • Work closely with regional business leaders and business unit compliance resources, be responsible for due diligence, education and monitoring of Gallagher’s co-brokers, third party introducers, suppliers, strategic vendors and business partners and agents, to ensure their understanding of, and compliance with, Gallagher’s Global Standards of Business Conduct and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Work closely with other stakeholders such as internal audit, and/or the legal team, lead and/or assist in the investigation and evaluation of allegations of noncompliance. Develop and ensure implementation of corrective action plans.
  • Support the Global Mergers & Acquisitions team with respect to transactions and integration activity within the region. Ensure that comprehensive compliance due diligence is performed, risks are identified, and that transactions are properly approved within the governance structure. Prepare due diligence reports.
  • Partner with local and global legal teams to ensure proper standards are in place and being followed. Assist with investigations in the region. Develop relationships with local regulators.
  • Stay current and serve as a subject matter expert on legal and compliance developments, industry activities and emerging trends relating to Gallagher’s business in Latin America and the Caribbean, including anti-corruption laws and requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and J.D. (or equivalent) degree with proven academic success.
  • A minimum 10 years applicable experience, including experience representing a global company in compliance matters, preferably in the Americas and in the financial services industry or other highly regulated industry.
  • Proven success serving as a change agent in developing and continuously implementing a compliance program with a global company, including prior experience auditing and monitoring compliance processes and controls
  • An ability and desire to travel internationally to support regional compliance.

  • Must be willing to execute Gallagher's Employee Agreement or Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure Agreement, which require, among other things, post-employment obligations relating to non-solicitation, confidentiality and non-disclosure
