JFCS Refugee and Immigrant Services works holistically with all other departments in the agency to ensure that people who are struggling get the range of assistance they need.


Position Summary

The Good Happy Family Program helps refugees interested in increasing their professional and educational abilities in order to promote greater financial stability for their family. The program works with adults and teenagers to help them address barriers to self-sufficiency and help them achieve their goals. The goal of the program is that at the end of their time in the program, families will be less reliant on Public Benefits.


The caseworker is expected to provide case management support to the family and work closely with the employment and career youth specialists to help enrolled families achieve their goals. The caseworker will provide education and cultural orientation to parents to increase their skill sets in navigating services on their own. This staff person will also make sure the family is connected with resources and services that will help them increase their integration in their communities. This position requires ability to assess and address client needs, link and assist clients with navigating social service, medical, and government agencies (etc.) with the goal to develop independence.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in social service, education or related field. Experience with case management and social services is preferred. Alert to cross-cultural differences in dealing with vulnerable refugee clients and to their unique needs. Proficiency in another language is a plus. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other departments and organizations to best serve the needs of the client. Comfort with data management systems. Ability to maintain a valid PA driver's license and insurance is a requirement. Flexibility in working flexible hours is required to assure home visits happen after the client’s work schedule.


Duties and Responsibilities (Use of interpretation as appropriate)

  • Work collaboratively with the other members of the Refugee and Immigrant department to do outreach to identify clients.
  • Screen/meet with clients to determine program suitability.
  • Provide client intakes and assessments to capture relevant data including English proficiency level and social service needs; assure proper documentation.
  • Develop individual self-sufficiency plans, both short-term and long-term, for all adult members of the family to include development of English proficiency as well as building competence in accessing services independently.
  • Provide client-centered, trauma-informed case management to support connection to services and referrals with partner agencies, county human service providers, schools, healthcare and government entities, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with the employment specialist to provide coaching on financial literacy and other goals connected to family/individual plans.
  • Work closely with the employment specialist to advance the client's personal and family self-sufficiency goals.
  • Attend program team and department meetings.
  • Collect and record program data both electronically and in paper files. Ensure timely case-noting into the agency information management system; assist with reporting and tracking client progress.
  • Take part in program monitoring and evaluation.
  • Participate in staff development and training opportunities.
  • Represent JFCS and program with funding and partners. Participates in networking and outreach to external service providers and client/immigrant communities.
  • Other duties as needed.
