This position is in the Division of Facilities and Transportation Services, Bureau of Building Management, and will be headquartered at the DOA Office Building at 1 W. Wilson Street, Madison, WI 53703.

Position Summary


This position provides quality customer service for their assigned state facilities by working with and responding to customer concerns and requests on a variety of different critical and routine repairs. The employee in this position will become an important point of contact and subject matter expert for the tenants of their assigned facilities and are an integral part of keeping our facilities safe and running!

This position is primarily responsible for the operation, inspection, repair, installation, and preventive maintenance of mechanical, HVAC/Refrigeration systems and related electric, pneumatic, electronic, and computerized direct digital temperature controls. This includes systems analysis, water chemical testing, maintenance and repairs on HVAC/Refrigeration equipment including but not limited to steam and hot water boilers, air handlers, VAV boxes, exhaust fans, heat recovery systems, humidification systems, circulating pumps, air and water filtration systems, pneumatic, electric and Direct Digital (DDC) temperature controls, static pressure controls, temperature control air compressors and refrigerated air driers, air cooled or water-cooled condensers and evaporative cooling towers. They will perform additional repair work and updates as assigned.

Salary Information


This position is in schedule-range (03-15) with a rate of pay of $25.60 an hour. A 12 month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Job Details


Due to the nature of the position, DOA will conduct background checks on applicants prior to selection. Applicants may be requested to complete a DOJ fingerprinting background check as well. Qualifications


Qualified candidates will have training or experience in the following:

  • Temperature Control Systems maintenance and repair
  • HVAC Systems maintenance and repair

Well qualified applicants may have experience in:

  • Utilizing a building automation system to set parameters and troubleshoot systems
  • Serving as a lead worker and training others
  • Navigating and submitting information in a computerized maintenance management system
