At Open Sky, the Program Recruiter is part of an integrated team that delivers powerful and transformative therapeutic experiences for students and their families, embracing the belief that all people have the capacity to thrive.


The Recruiter’s primary responsibility is to research, develop, and implement effective strategies and consistent hiring processes to attract and source a diverse pool of qualified and capable Field Guides, and team members to the Open Sky Operations, Intake, and Medical teams. The Program Recruiter collaborates with the Program Director to determine Program and Field Guide staffing needs and then proactively and independently manages posting efforts, candidate screening, and interviews to ensure that Open Sky consistently develops outstanding Programs and Field Guides to deliver high-quality wilderness therapy experiences to students and their families. The program recruiter may facilitate and organize new guide orientations including coordinating/scheduling daily orientation activities and meals and providing various new guide training. May also lead expo and contribute to hiring decisions.


This position will benefit from both field experience and human resources/recruiting knowledge. The Recruiter will understand the qualities of an effective employee and field guide and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws. The Recruiter represents Open Sky to external audiences and will have excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Other duties may be assigned.


The schedule is generally Monday - Friday, 8.30 am - 5.30 pm, with occasional after hours and weekend work required. The position works out of our Durango, Colorado office with occasional travel to the Mancos ranch, and the Colorado and Utah base camps.


The position is eligible for Open Sky’s benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401K) depending on employee classification and hours worked.

Requirements:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with Program Director to understand recruitment needs and timelines.
  • Train and support hiring managers throughout the hiring process, ensuring consistency and quality for Open Sky and the applicant.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to review detailed and accurate job descriptions and hiring criteria.
  • Develop job postings from job descriptions and manage advertisement processes.
  • Work within the HRIS applicant tracking system to track all aspects of workflows, applicant communication, screening, selection, and offers.
  • Develop and implement all phases of the recruitment process, including pre-hire assessments, onsite visits, screening applications, and selecting qualified candidates for interviews.
  • Schedule and conduct interviews; oversee the preparation of interview questions and other hiring and selection materials.
  • Collaborate with others to make hiring decisions and assist with the offer process, identifying and recommending salary ranges, incentives, start dates, and other pertinent details.
  • Ensure candidate recruitment paperwork is complete and assist with onboarding as assigned.
  • Identify, schedule, and attend appropriate recruiting events.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and Open Sky policies.
  • May facilitate new guide orientations including organizing daily activities and meals and providing various training. May also lead expo and contribute to hiring decisions.
  • Obtain and maintain driver training certification per company policy.
  • Maintain First Aid and annual CPR certification.

Education/Training, Experience

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. A minimum of three years of field experience in an outdoor youth program and at least two years of management experience working with students with therapeutic needs is required. Two years’ wilderness experience in the field is preferred. Two years of experience managing recruiting and hiring processes is strongly preferred.

Skills, Licenses, Certifications

Must be at least 21 years old. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to quickly learn applicant tracking software and other recruitment systems. Ability to identify and develop appropriate sources for qualified Field Guide candidates. HRCI aPHR or ability to attain accreditation is highly desired. First Aid and CPR certification (within the last year) is strongly preferred. Have an acceptable driving record and a valid driver’s license. Complete DMV release for inquiry and review of driving record. Pass pre-employment physical and drug screening. Pass Colorado, Utah, and FBI background checks. Review and sign the Utah Provider Code of Conduct. Provide certified college transcripts, if applicable.

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds. Must be able to hear and talk with other people in person and using phone and radio. Must be able to use office technology including a computer and related equipment. Must be able to spend long periods standing, bending, and walking, and must be able to use stairs frequently.

Work Environment

Work is performed in office and outdoor settings with frequent interaction with other people. Employee may be exposed to environmental conditions such as extreme weather, noise, and vibration, and employees may be exposed to infectious diseases. Work involves functioning in narrow aisles or passageways. Employees will work with students with acute mental, emotional, and behavioral healthcare needs. Employees may drive and ride in Open Sky vehicles in support of program activities.

Additional Requirements

Pass pre-employment physical and drug screening. Pass annual physical. Clean driving record and valid driver's license. Complete DMV Release for annual inquiry and review of driving record. Pass Colorado and Utah background checks. Pass annual Utah background check. Review and sign the annual Utah Provider Code of Conduct.
