Porter Starke is looking to add a Recovery Specialist to our growing team.

POSITION SUMMARY


Porter-Starke Services, Inc. is seeking a Peer Recovery Specialist to provide peer support services to clients with a mental illness diagnosis. A Peer Recovery Specialist is an individual who applies their own lived experience to help clients (peers) through treatment and toward the path of recovery. Peer Recovery Specialists work closely with Case Management staff, using a strength-based approach to assist clients in building resources, coping strategies, and support.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist clients in articulating personal strengths, goals and barriers for recovery
  • Assist clients in determining reasonable and holistic steps moving toward recovery
  • Observe and reinforce positive progress that clients make toward recovery goals
  • Utilize interventions to assist client with building skills to enhance recovery including but not limited to: problem solving, communication, building self-esteem, decision making, identifying/overcoming anxiety/fears, job-related skills, socialization, daily functioning, etc.
  • Assist non-client staff in identifying program elements that are/are not supportive to recovery
  • Facilitate a client advisory committee to enhance client engagement and ownership in the recovery process
  • Attend treatment team meetings and medication appointments as requested to represent the needs and perspectives of the client
  • Utilize his/her unique recovery experience to teach and role model the value of every individual's recovery experience
  • Maintain effective coping and self-help techniques.
  • Continue to develop professional skill by maintaining certification through required coursework
  • Investigate community resources for appropriateness of services to clients
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients and avoid dual relationships within the community
  • Support treatment team objectives and strategies
  • Fulfill documentation requirements of employer accurately and in a timely manner
  • Use inclusive, culturally appropriate language and attitudes with all clients and staff
  • Meet job expectations as specified in the Employee Handbook.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Self-identify as a current or former consumer.
  • Must be maintaining healthy recovery from mental illness and/or substance use disorder.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to meet written communication requirements.
  • Must be able to verify completion of state-approved training program and passing score on certification exam an Indiana Community Health Worker / Certified Recovery Specialist.
